You don't need a lot to build a shrine. Most include things like candles, an incense burner, and perhaps a statue or two set upon an altar.
The fortune cat is likely our most recognizable symbol of good luck, though anything you associate with luck would be fine as well.

I have noticed that there are a good number of Japanese people. I am learning some of the language as well. However, I do not think I can help you when it comes to shrines.
As for the rubbish, why do you not simply throw it away in the appropriate place?
