[Frol is lying on his bed, thinking out loud more than anything else, so he doesn't bother to turn on the video function.]

It's so damn loud all of a sudden. Is this what BREW does when bad stuff happens? Grabs even more people and throws them over here? We're gonna overpower the Witches just by numbers soon enough ( Read more... )

There's a whole island back home where only the women fight and stuff, and there's a lot of women who're masters in one fighting style or another. [smug] Like me.

[...well, then. He knew there would be some yeses, but nothing like that.]

Really? How does it... I dunno, how does it work out for you?

Fine, mostly. Most people are more upset about the whole 'blind' thing than they are about the 'girl' thing. The Kyoshi Warriors are some of the best fighters out there, though.

Then do women there have biological advantages? Say, more muscles than me, or higher endurance?

Something has to account for those we lose. 'BREW' seems to act like a constant source of reinforcement if it's behaviour pattern is anything to follow, and it may be the key to winning the war if the Witches don't attain a means to replenish their own resources.

And while there tended to be less women that opt for a military lifestyle in my world, that isn't to say it was at all unusual.

That sounds about right... So, it'll be fine as long as the Witches don't find their own kind of BREW. Are you studying the thing or something?

You too. Huh.

Most likely. And no, I haven't taken that much of an interest in it- just a few observations as they've occurred to me.

Is it so unusual in your world?

Only some of the planets I've studied have women and men doing the same things. A lot of 'em have each assigned to do something different. And mine is one where it's different for different genders, yeah.

You can count me among the woman warriors.

Why the question, Frolbericheri?

Yeah, I already knew about you. But it was nice of you to answer, I guess.

Can't a guy just ask a question for no reason?

You don't ask a question for no reason. You ask a question for a reason.

It's just that there's an awful lot of girls here that fight just the same as the guys, and Sandry even said she was really important back home.

I'd understand if it just happened to be a single planet with equality, but people here are from all over!

Can't women learn to fight and have important positions no matter where they are?

Where've you been? Not every place is the same!

That is the talk of one with little power and will.

What are you talking about? I'm just sayin' not every planet is like yours!

The place where I'm from is kind of like this "world", I suppose, but without all the crazy things. The short answer to your question would be, "Yes, I come from a place where women can fight and hold important positions" but that would really be discounting how hard people of both sexes had to work for women to be treated equally as men. It's still an issue, really.

Places like this world, too... I figured, since BREW takes girls as much as boys.

So you had to work for it, huh? If that's the best way for your planet to function, why didn't women get to do stuff in the first place?

It was a societal thing, I guess. Most societies were and still are patriarchal with the men calling the shots within families. Structure the society long enough like that and women and men have it ingrained within them that women are inferior and subservient. Eventually a bunch of people got pissed off, decided they wanted equal rights and power, and a few hundred years later it's better.

[So much information! He almost wishes he'd thought to take notes.]

That's a lot of change to happen just 'cause people want it. But... I guess it sounds nice.
