[Kanda looks a more centered now than when last he appeared on the network the afternoon before. He’s clean, for one, and there’s a different expression in his eyes--certainly not softness, but a comparative grounding and focus. He’s standing on the steps of Shibusen, and there’s an uncompromising set to his jaw ( Read more... )

[He gives the screen a rather bemused expression, but his tone sounds at least mildly impressed.]

How inspiring. You sound rather like an officer briefing his troops. But it was fairly good, as far as pep talks go.

[Stares rather dumbfounded for a moment. Ten years younger or not, he recognizes your face, Saralegui, but he associates it with Yuuri and his insane headlong dashes and abandonment of all common sense. He also can't quite tell if you are making fun of him or not, and he rather suspects that you are (never something he takes kindly to). Presently, his expression resolves into a deep frown.]

"Pep talk"?

[He doesn't look very happy with his choice of words being questioned, however.]

I learned that phrase here, not at home. It does sound rather stupid, doesn't it?

[Flatly, and without any degree of sympathy.]

Yes.

And I do not have "troops." [He's actually a little discomforted by the implication.]

It appears as though we are indebted to you and the others.

[He inclines his head.]

To protect the destiny of all living things is a difficult mission to undertake... in light of this information, I will lend Shibusen and this war my strength.

[This is the first time Kanda has ever conversed with Tassadar. The telepathy rather takes him aback. Even if he's seen him in passing--a nearly ten foot tall alien is difficult to miss, after all--hearing someone speak without talking can be a disconcerting experience.]

[After a moment, he gives a nod of his own, seeming to recompose himself.]
I'm not asking for anyone's gratitude. You owe me nothing.

[A pause.] How are you doing that--making your voice speak in my head?

Whether you are asking for it or not does not change my offer.

My race communicate through our psionic abilities. I believe humans call it telepathy.

[This is so inspiring, they could use a guy like you back in Jowston. He feels so fired up now.]

Mm, I will do whatever I can to help Shibusen. Even if this isn't my world, I can't allow that future to happen!

[A bit stiffly, since he doesn't know how to respond to people taking his words as positive or inspirational. Usually when he talks he just alienates people. This sort of response makes him feel awkward.]

Fine. Get a partner if you don't already have one. You'll need them if you mean to fight.

Mm, I will! I haven't had luck looking for a Meister, but for now, I'll fight however I can.

You'll need one. Focus your energy there the next few days.

A weapon alone would be too easy for them to destroy. Even if the partnership is temporary, you will need someone to work with.

[Well that's good and all Kanda, but the first thing's first--]

Then we need to know where the factory that's holding the kidnapped is first.

Winry has given Shibusen a list of the factories that existed in that ten year future. They have the resources to find out which ones exist now. And if they don't, then we will have to go investigate each location ourselves until we know.

A good idea, but that's only if we have enough time to do that. Do you have an idea of how soon this next attack you're talking about might occur? [Sure Spirit might be alive, but who knows? The Witches might still try to pull out that Crane guy with them.]

[Grim and matter-of-fact. It would do no good to sugar coat things.] Weeks. Not long.

It will be better if Shibusen can manage it. They can send their staff great distances in a span of minutes. They've done it before.

Just knowing that is what's going to give us the edge we need to win.

Knowing alone will not win a war. You make a mistake if you tell yourself it will be that easy.
