Yosuke and I kind of crushed all the other ones when we resonated, so we took this one home instead and we didn't think it would hatch but now it is!

If neither of you expected it to live, why did you even go to all the trouble of-- you know what, never mind. Trying to follow the doomed train of thought you and Yosuke consider "logic" is only going to hurt us all in the end. Eventually it's bound to violently derail, flinging concepts left right and center like so many unlucky passengers.

Oh! It is hatching! In that case all you really need to do is wait for the hatchling to come forth from the egg. There is nothing to be worried about, I should think, if it already has a crack in the shell. It shows that it is healthy and simply cannot wait until it can get out.

Pray do not worry, just let nature take its course.

[He then remembers his own hatching for a moment, and then quickly adds:]

However, I would advise for you to have some food for the hatchling ready. Everyone is hungry fresh out of the shell, so I would think it must be the same for a duckling as it would be for a dragonet.

You will have to pardon me, but I do not know what young ducks eat. If it were a dragonet, I could tell you to have some mutton at the ready which can be bought at a market, but ducks only eat plants or vegetables, do they not?

[Or so he thinks. He hasn't particularly minded them before, though he once saw one people feed corn to geese, and they are close enough to ducks.]
