No. It has to be light and imperceptible, but very strong so that a single or two threads can support a person's weight.

I am not sure about thread, though I have always been fond of using steel shamisen strings. I imagine piano wire would also be effective.

I have used both in the past, yes. I prefer the former, though neither are my primary weapon.
[Combining two weapons hidden within a musical instrument was more convenient, among other things.]
