[Karkat opted for cleanup detail instead of setup. Meant he got a chance to have a nap while it was still daylight and watch the fireworks before biting down on his pride and going down to Northern Lights to do his job.

it also meant he got to miss the party. he was doing a lot better, but he still wasn't much in the mood to be stuck with a bunch of people.

so here's Karkat, all pissed off and dragging a trash bag, picking the cups and bigger trash up off the floor so it can be cleaner properly.]

[for a moment, Karkat looks flustered.]

N-no, not THAT kind of pity, holy shit! I don't pity him at all! Anyway, look, that's not opinion, that's just stone truth. She could rent one of those aeronautical writing devices and paint her feelings all over the sky for every last nookwhiff to see, and he still wouldn't figure it out.

And she's not the type to come right out and say, either, is she. Hmm.

[back to cleaning up. Karkat looks lost in thought.]

Has she -- or you, I guess -- tried talking to his friends? Maybe he needs a different sort of approach.

[Bold's mouth slowly curves in a smirk. She might tease him about this later, but for now there's something more important. And, for lack of anything to do, and wanting to keep her hands busy, she resumes helping him]

She talked on the Network asking for advice a couple days ago; not too many of his friends responded, but... Let's see... [She furrows her brow, trying to remember] Most of them said to try to direct approach, or to just give up.

She won't give up though. That's at least one thing me and her got in common. And she does really like him; figure she deserves it... [She trails off in a mumble]

[Karkat frowns at that. Usually he's good about checking the network and trolling people who ask for romantic advice, but it's been a bad time for him lately.]

The thing is, with Naruto, you HAVE to go the direct route. Nothing short of beating it into his thick pan with all the force of a fucking sledgehammer will make it stick.

[he picks up more trash, debating whether or not to ask, then does it anyway.]

So, how it that going to work? I mean, I get that you're not the same person, but between you working with Neji and her trying to date that dumbass...

That's what everyone said. [She laughs a little] She's just gotta get herself together and actually do it.

[The question makes her drop some of the plates in her hand and her scowls] Idiot! Don't say that out loud! [She huffs and crouches down, picking up the plate but not making a move to stand again]

I'm not... going after Neji. I can't. He can't be with only half a person. [Which hurts. A lot.] And 'sides, if Lain knew I liked him she'd try to give on on Naruto, which would completely defeat the purpose of me giving up on Neji for her.

That's kind of fucked up that anyone has to step down. There's no way to compromise? Like, Lain gets one day, you get the other, something like that?

I wouldn't care, and I don't think Lain would either. But it'd be weird for them, don't you think? 'Oh hey, there's the woman I love, kissing the other guy-- oh no, that's not her, that's just her body, the girl who lives in her head must've taken over for a bit.' [There is something undeniably bitter in her voice]

And even though Lain and I consider ourselves two separate people, most people don't look at us like that.

Hmm... yeah, you have a point. Shit, this is complicated.

[he focuses on cleaning again.]

Still, it's not like those two don't already see you as two different people, right? I mean, don't get me wrong, I still think that's kind of batshit, but what the hell do I know. Crazier things happen all the time.

Since it involves Neji and Naruto anyway, maybe you should talk it over. The four of you, I mean. Probably they won't understand, but look at it this way. If they don't, you haven't lost anything, because you already decided to give up on Neji. But if they do...

[he shrugs. it's a tough situation from any angle.]

[She stands from her crouch and lazily tosses one of the plastic spoons at him (to change it up from the cups) and grins] Maybe I'll fall for Karkat instead~

[Karkat reaches up to catch the spoon, but what she says afterward surprises him enough that he completely fumbles.]

[She smirks and moves forward, grabbing at Karkat's shirt to yank him into a very brief, chaste kiss.

And then she's letting him go, tossing her head back with a bright laugh] Later, Karkat~!

[She calls it over her shoulder as she runs off]

[Karkat's body language is nothing short of flailing, impotent shock as she kisses him. he doesn't even recover enough to kiss back before she runs off not that he was going to or anything.

he just watches her go, jaw halfway to the floor.
