[Truthfully, Tseng had entered at a whim. Pies are not his specialty, and though he's a decent cook he's still eying his pie with suspicion. It looks pretty enough but pineapple is always so hit or miss.

It's just a pie. He firmly reminds himself of that while he waits for the judges. At least he has plenty of people to feed it to later.]

Probably, you have. [He's known her for over fifteen years, and that is terribly frightening for a moment. But he cuts a piece of pie and puts it on a little plate. Presentation doesn't count for much for the judges, right?]

I just like sweet things. And my Mom used to bake a lot of pies.

I used to bake with my stepmother. [Her eating the cherry out of his fingers draws a smile again.] There's an art to them, but I don't think it is terribly complicated.
