[Karkat avoided all of the festival buzz -- all of this Christmas stuff is just getting on his last nerve -- but a brilliant fireworks display is hard for a 13-year-old to resist. He stops to watch for a moment, then sits down on the edge of the roof with his legs dangling over the side.

He can take or leave most human celebrations, but this is pretty cool.]

[Some fingers appear at the edge of the roof, along with a pair of cat lion perfectly normal and Leonmitchelli dares anyone to say otherwise ears. They are quickly followed by a rather unfeminine grunt as their owner pulls the rest of herself over the edge.

She brushes herself off and gives Karkat a somewhat triumphant look.]

I thought I saw someone up here!

[Yeah she just climbed up the face of the building to check. This is the kind of thing that happens when she doesn't have anything to do.]

[dungenessmaster]

[Karkat scoots back a little and warily eyes the stranger scrambling up onto the roof. he doesn't recognize her. she must be part of the new batch.]

Crowds suck. I just wanted to catch the part where everything explodes.

[he leans over the edge of the roof, looking for a ladder or fire escape. there's nothing. he raises an eyebrow -- did she seriously climb a building just to pester him?]

Oh, are there going to be fireworks?

[She really does not have a clue what's going on beyond 'there is a party.']

[dungenessmaster]

I think so. Not that I give a damn about all of these dumb parties or anything.

[he gave enough of a damn to be here on time, though.]

Is that why you've got the best seats, then? [She smirks] This really is a good spot. I think I'll stay.

[dungenessmaster]

This part's probably not too bad, but the rest of the festival looked totally fucking lame. I wouldn't have bothered coming at all if it wasn't on the way to work!

[that's only partly true; he wasn't interested in the main events, but he had to go pretty far out of his way to catch the show. he looks irritated by her declaration; why does she have to sit where he's sitting? it's a big roof.

but the fireworks are starting, so he turns his attention to that.]

[reverencing]

[It would seem the fireworks had been enough for Karkat not to notice this current roof was already occupied. Mitsunari steps a bit closer to him, vaguely recognizing the horns and skin tone - this was that youkai he spoke to over the network after Lord Hanbei had disappeared, wasn't it?

His attention moves quickly enough back to the fireworks. They are rather impressive, even to him. As there is a break between the explosions, Mitsunari speaks - but whether its to himself, or he's trying to be at least vaguely sociable is impossible to tell.]

It would seem Magoichi has outdone herself this time...

[dungenessmaster]

[yep, same youkai, if by youkai he meant troll. Karkat recognized Mitsunari from the post about Terezi going missing.

he looks up at the other guy, frowning a little at the unfamiliar name.]

Magowho?

[reverencing]

Magoichi.

[He repeats the name and looks down at Karkat once more.]

An ally of mine... She is playing a hand in this. [He gestures towards the fireworks.

[dungenessmaster]

[ally? well, he refers to his friends and such as teammates, so he guesses he can understand.]

Mmm.

[he turns back to the fireworks, watching for a bit, before commenting further.]

So you still have some allies here.

Sorry, Carkey, he's just going to keep mentally referring to you as a Japanese monster

[reverencing]

In a sense.

[He glances down to Karkat again - back home, though he'd never truly encountered a youkai himself, he had heard tales in his youth about them. Never trust them, never invite them into your home, ever take one's eye off them...

However, Mitsunari was never one to buy into superstition. He soon turns his gaze back to the display.]

Two of my remaining allies I held no true alliance with before my arrival. The third, one who had pledged his oath of loyalty, scarcely recalls who I am.

[He pauses for a beat, letting a firework explode in the distance, waiting for the booming to subside.]

And you? What of your situation?

[how did gamzee get up here so quietly

the only sound he is making is a soft "eeeeeeeeeee" of wonder

he hasn't blinked for at least half an hour]

[oh shit where did this idiot come from?

Karkat side-eyes him when he starts making noise.]

Gamzee. It's just fireworks. Gunpowder and chemicals in a paper cylinder.

[single royal jelly tear rolls down his face]
