Pre-Mission, IN THE CAMP

[Not too far away, of course. He ain't Date's Right Eye for nothing.]

[Busying himself for the moment by retying his eyepatch and making sure it holds well. Last thing he needs is for it to drop and be lost again like that other time....]

[And then he's just there, wordlessly reaching out to retie it for you.]

[There's a bit of momentary surprise on Date's end when Koujurou's just suddenly there, but he relaxes easily enough, letting go to allow his retainer to do it for him.]

[A vague sound. Nothing, up until he comes to stand beside you.]

One can only hope that something will come out of this.

[Makes a grunt once Koujurou is done, idly doing a small tug at his eyepatch to make sure its secure before he runs a hand through his hair, sighing.]

I'm sure it will. [They are making the first move here after all.]

But at what cost?

[Glances down here, and Koujurou can probably just imagine the frown now crossing Date's face; its clear that the warlord is remembering October now all too easily.]

...I don't know. [But he hopes that whatever it is, it won't be like last time.]

[No response, just Koujurou looking at Date once before turning back to the horizon.]

[It's only a bit more before Date glances back, to look at Koujurou and trying to find the suitable words to speak. It's a war, and war is what they know - but this here now is an entirely different kind of war, a war that they're in for the sake of returning home. And who knows when that will happen, too... they could be here for years, decades, even the rest of their entire life--

--and to be honest, Date doesn't want to think about the possibility of that. But he can't help it, really. Three months already, and yet at the same time it feels like it's been forever.]

At least its a step closer to getting back home, right?

[Another moment of silence - when Date speaks again though, its full of conviction, telling the words to himself just like he's telling it to Koujurou, to everyone who'll listen.]

We'll get back home one day.

[They will, and Date will do whatever he can to make it happen. If it means going through this war to the end, he will do it.]

[Ah, that confidence. It shamed him, how he had to be reminded by his own master of such a simple matter.]

[It's nice to hear that Koujurou sounds better, and it makes Date feel better too - more confident, more certain that it will happen, and that he will make it happen. Because this is all he's got, and because this is what he can do best, for both himself and for Koujurou.]

We should celebrate once this is over. Get some drinks out, relax a little. I think we all could deserve it after something like this.
