#10 [video]

[Hello, Death City! Boy, we sure hope you aren’t tired of surveillance posts, because this is just one of those days. Or nights, as the case may be. The camera focuses on Near, who wastes no time in getting down to business.]

I’m certain we all know we’re under attack, so I will keep my message simple: I have developed a map which will inform you of how many kishin eggs can be found in each area and how dangerous they appear to be. [And a quite colorful map pops up, taking most of the screen, while a voice that is decidedly not Near’s says “Yeah, you developed it, all by yourself. Real nice." Near just ignores it as he continues to explain how the map should be interpreted.] The map has been divided into areas which are similar to the Zone system used by the Watch and which have also been labeled accordingly. In each of these areas, you can see a number that matches the estimate of how many kishin eggs can be found there. You may notice that some of these zones have been marked with a black cross, which is the symbol we will be using to indicate the kishin eggs that appear to be stronger in nature. A red cross will be used to indicate SOS signals, which will undoubtedly be sent out throughout the attack.

[As soon as Stein’s message went out, Mello headed for the Kuzunoha Detective Agency, not unaware of the irony of guns being useless right after he finally got his hands on some. It would be suicide to be caught without a Weapon tonight, which was obviously the only reason he was bothering.

Now he’s typing in updates, and relaying what he can see on various surveillance cameras to Near, because hey, if the twit’s okay with being on video, Mello’s fine being the one who stays in the background. As the attack progresses, his rattled-off status updates become more rapid-fire, and a lot more irritated-sounding. The creak of his chair can be heard from time to time, as well as a sound the trained ear might recognize as chocolate breaking. The chair goes sliding noisily across the floor right before he finally snaps out:] There’s too damn many of them. They’re getting through the outer zones. You know we’d do more good out there. Everyone fucking knows we’re under attack, they don’t need color commentary.

I know that, but we were specifically asked to keep an eye on them and report their movements as the attack progressed, we have to stay here for now and-- [A sudden explosion can be heard, one of many that night, and either Near or Mello type furiously in the background; it is unclear who is tinkering around with the cameras now.]

Fine, report this, wanker, [Mello starts to mutter, talking over Near, but is cut short.] That was two blocks away, come on.

[Pissy Near is pissy and his usually blank façade is very much shattered by this point; his annoyance is more than clear, and it’s just as obvious that his Meister is one of the main reasons for his sour mood. But even so, he keeps it together, even though it’s taking quite a bit of self control to stop himself from shoving a chocolate bar down Mello’s throat to shut him up.]

Perhaps you should step in front of the camera, if you are so eager to take over this transmission-- [Talking right over Near again.] I’m only here because my Weapon won’t get off his ass. [Near narrows his eyes at that and he looks like he’s going to protest, but Mello anticipates it and promptly turns the transmission off.]

((ooc: For IC purposes, please consider this message went up shortly after midnight, and that Near and Mello will make constant reports of kishin egg movements up until around 3/4 am, which will be when shit hits the fan for them and they have to head out. Unlike Near, Mello will never be visible on screen, although he will be heard, just like in this post.

From the moment the map first appears on screen, it will always remain visible and it will be constantly updated-- yes, even as these two bicker in the background. Eventually, their transmission ends, but the constantly updated map will still be accessible on your character’s communicator.

In case it wasn’t obvious, blue text is Near, red text is Mello.))
