Everything is silent at the strike of midnight, the streets empty. The alarms had stopped ringing a couple of hours ago, when all the residents had evacuated to Shibusen and its immediate, sheltered structures. Shibusen’s students, staff, and guests are ready in their assigned posts, and the volunteers are on stand-by to help any of the wounded return to base.
Midnight strikes. Tension hangs heavily in the air, and the silence is broken by the distant snarling and howling of the kishin eggs, serving as an increasingly overwhelming background sound to the setting. The first kishin eggs don’t breach the gates so much as leap over them, and not a moment later, dozens of the monsters burst in from the zones, clawing at each other as they moved to spread through the city. They’re all hungry, in a race against each other to get the first bite of an innocent’s soul, and their targets are all the souls in Shibusen.
