So, back around May,
TTA was sponsoring “Bike to Work Week”. Being as currently attempting to do that more and more, I went and “registered” the wife and I up on their web site. I figured, it would help their numbers, and in the long run, might help out the TTA folks and the bike advocates around town help pressure politicians to pony up some cash for more bike lanes and other cool bike stuff. A side affect was, I we were entered into a drawing to win a new bike, a
Trek 7.2 FX, actually, from
The Bicycle Chain (which is pretty much exactly the bike that Jennifer had bought a month or so earlier, from the same people).
Well, imagine my surprise when I got the mail yesterday, to find out, that I had actually won said bike! On top of that, I even get a new helmet donated be Corrective Chiropractic. So, now I’m all excited to be getting the new bike. I can’t wait for next week, when the contact over at TTA gets back to work so we can arrange for me to pick it up. I’ll have to pose for some pictures with it, and give them a statement or two to put on the website.
So, now the question of, what to do with the old bike, a Specialized Hard Rock Climber that I’ve had on semi-perm loan from
zihuatanejo. I’ll definitely transfer all the accessories to the new bike (locks, lights, pump, rack, etc), but after that, there will still be a perfectly functioning bike ready to go. Owen, would you like it back?
margaretc expressed some interest in it too, so if you don’t want it, you could probably work out something to sell it to her (for Chow). Margaret, in case you are wondering, it’s a 19” frame mountain bike that currently has street tires on it (26” wheels, I think), but I still have the off road tires and will give them to whomever ends up with the bike. I’ve got the seat up kinda high, but then again, I have a long inseam, but there’s plenty of seat post to go higher or lower as needed. (Oh, it also comes with a nifty user icon, pictured, and free of charge...)
PS, there's a tax incentive bill up on The Hill for bike comuters, so it would be cool if you went and pushed your congress peeps to support it:
