Hayato is embarrassed to let Ryu see the apartment that he shares with his younger brother and psycho father. Somehow, despite being friends since primary school, he manages to deter Ryu from his homely lodgings until their second year in high school.
"It's not what you're used to," he says, fumbles through his pockets for the keys. "Don't mind the mess. We're three useless men."
Ryu hands him the spare set of keys he finds under the dirty, worn welcome mat. "Yeah, useless."
Hayato doesn't say "Tadaima!" because he knows no one is there to reply. He does, however, give Ryu a mini tour. "Important things! Fridge. Microwave. Stove, but we haven't turned it on in a while, and I'm not sure if it works. TV! I think the video games are under that pile of laundry. Bathroom. My room!"
"It's smaller than my parent's bedroom," Ryu states, but Hayato laughs easy. Ryu likes it.
