Poppies are my favourites also. I like the traditional Flanders poppies, so vivid and red, although there are a lot of orange ones around here - although not the California poppies, just normal ones that happen to be a very bright orange. I'm also trying to grow some pink poppies this year. I too love heather, and other wild flowers like mayflower, bluebells, primrose, lily of the valley - too many. My favourite thing about this time of year is that every bit of woodland, of which there is a lot around here, dotted in between housing estates and behind schools and churches, is covered with a carpet of purple from the stunning bluebells. There's a wood that's particularly famous for its bluebells and, when I was about seven, a friend and I had a good go at picking all of them - obviously not realising at that time that it's illegal. Our mothers were distraught.

I have always loved flowers without knowing their names. But I want to learn them so I can picture them all when you list them! I want to see a bright red poppy! Do the orange ones you have look very similar to the California ones? Ours our very weedy. I love them. They are so rare too, compared to other flowers. So precious.

I might write a story about you getting in trouble for picking bluebells! Or you should! It sounds so beautiful in my mind. :) Why is that illegal?
