Absolutely! I couldn't believe it when I heard (I know he was 81, but still...)

It's been rather sadly lovely to see all the evidence of how fondly-remembered, and highly regarded, he was by Classic Who fen.

A significant portion of my penchant for British Army men with moustaches can be traced back to this character (and I'm sure he'd have been so gratified to know that :P).

I'm sure he would have been gratified to know that. Anyone would have to have something severely wrong with them to not be delighted by your positive regard. ;)
