Holiday baking time

My mom kept lists every year of the cookies that were baked for the holidays, with notes about which of us kids helped with which cookies. Some years, those lists had 30 different cookies on them, I swear. Usually it was more like 10 or 15, but there were a few years that had super long lists (or do you think 10 or 15 is already super-long?). I' ( Read more... )

I'm a bit late to this - missed it for a while.

I'm not a huge baker - Christmas Cake and mince pies are my usual offerings. Is baking cookies an American tradition (I don't think it happens too much in Britain at this time of year apart from shortbread) or more of a specific family thing?

Also - what are Christmas Trees?

lathany, I apparently deleted your comment, instead of deleting it from my message box. Sorry! I blame the flu bug I am currently fighting.

Anyway . . . I think Christmas cookies are traditional in northern Europe, at least, with Spritz and Bruna Kakor (Swedish cinammon cookies, kind of like spekulaas, which I can't spell), but as with so many things, we take them to extremes here in the States.:-) You can get whole books and magazines dedicated to them.

The Christmas Trees I mention are made with a Mirro press (or other brand, but Mirro is arguably the best).
