I think what it really comes down to is choice. You have to decide for yourself what is or isn't true/real/believable and accept the consequences of your choice. It's easier for many people to accept something that we at least have an outside chance of understanding over the blind faith that's readily (religiously) available. And maybe in the end, all we are is all we believe, or the sum of what we choose to believe.

Your essay reminds me of being a child. A child believes he is the center of the universe - in what he sees - in who he sees. He can be easily fooled by others, and even by his own fantastic imaginings.

I feel that we, as a people, began as a child - really just as an infant. I dearly hope that we are not only advancing in the application of science, but also in the growth of our awareness. In this way, we will not accept merely the face value or the so-called scientific fact. We will, ourselves, be "capable of change, updates, revision," and then our maturity and possibility will one day be fully realized.
