CHAPTER THREE

She found the silence unusual. It was almost like being sucked into a void. It scared her. At first glance, the shelves resembled prison walls with the steel bars hovering on top of the others like the bars of a cage. It scared her.

“I’d like to check these out please,” she heard someone say in a whisper. She moved her chair to her right and swiped the books without looking up. She hated seeing people’s blank faces when they go to the library. Why are they so serious? She would always think.

“Thank you,” went another whisper after she was done checking the books out. She gave a slight nod, still not looking up. Her chair rolled over back to her left.

The silence continued. She stared at her computer and saw a screen as blank as the library people’s faces. It was another boring day. And instead of trying to mentally endure the lack of things to do, she opened her bag and whipped out her Nintendo DS. After looking around to check if anyone was staring in her direction, she turned it on and grabbed the opportunity to amuse herself.

“Hyaa! Hyaa!” she unconsciously muttered as the little plumber on the screen jumped over the blocks. The sounds she made, as little as they were, caused a stir inside the house of knowledge.

“Ssshh!” a group of students whispered loudly from their seats. They didn’t know where the noise was coming from but nothing was worthy enough to get in the way of their precious study time - nothing.

“Hey.” A tall girl tapped the computer screen just in front of the noisy librarian. The latter was too consumed in her game and didn’t bother to look up.

“Sunny,” the tall girl whispered once more to get the other to notice her presence. There was still no response. At a loss, the tall girl grabbed the handheld console from the obsessed player.

“HEY!!” Sunny screamed in annoyance. The entire room burst into one loud “SSSHHHH!!”

The librarian clasped both hands against her mouth. Silence was regained.

“You’re so noisy.” The tall girl put the handheld console down beside the computer.

“I hate you, Sooyoungie.” Sunny pouted as she placed her beloved Nintendo DS inside her bag.

“Sorry. You looked so zoned out,” Sooyoung replied, patting Sunny’s head.

“Whatever.” Sunny continued to pout. “What are you doing here anyway?”

“I just wanted to read a few books. I miss school, you know?” Sooyoung answered, glancing at the countless shelves around her. To her they didn’t look like prison walls - not at all. They were once the key to her future - the future that was hastily taken away by the forceful grip of drugs and suicides.

“I don’t get why you still love studying. You have a business for goodness’ sake!” Sunny burst in a louder whisper.

Sooyoung placed a finger against her mouth. “You can’t keep quiet, can you?” she teased the irritated librarian.

Sunny let out a sigh. “I hate libraries. They’re so silent.”

Sooyoung flashed a small smile. She knew that Sunny didn’t belong to such a serene place. Her energy had better uses. “Help me find some books then. That’ll ease your boredom,” she suggested.

Sunny raised an eyebrow. “What if someone asks to check books out? I can’t leave my station,” she explained, trying to deny the fact that she indeed wanted to get off of her butt and do whatever it was that Sooyoung was suggesting.

“Put the lunch break sign on or something,” Sooyoung suggested once again. She wanted Sunny and she wanted her right then and there. Who gives a damn about books right now? She thought. She was just making up excuses.

“Lunch break sign?” Sunny replied in disbelief. “This is my job we’re talking about and you’re talking about food-related shit?”

Sooyoung was getting impatient. She went behind the counter and pulled Sunny by the hand. The latter had no chance to refuse.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Sunny muttered under her breath. Sooyoung didn’t answer. She dragged Sunny behind the tallest shelves with the dirtiest books, where no one would dare research. Little did they know that they weren’t alone. The two strangers on the other side of the shelf were also up to something.

“I’m hungry. Feed me,” Sooyoung whispered into Sunny’s ear.

Sunny’s eyes widened at the thought of fucking inside a library. She had thought about it during her idle moments at her station and would occasionally find her hand suddenly down her underwear, and in between her legs while thinking of a certain someone, but she never did realize how possible really doing it during work could be. She leaned on the dusty shelf and unbuttoned her top. “Fine. But let’s ‘observe silence.’”

“I thought you hated quiet places,” Sooyoung teased as she helped Sunny slowly undress. She could’ve torn everything off, but she took her time. The mood had to be set. It was her way of asking for forgiveness for what she was about to do. After the silent and slow teasing, Sunny was left in her underwear.

“I do hate silent places. Let’s see if you can make me scream,” Sunny replied while pressing herself against the hungry Sooyoung. The latter started to feast by attacking Sunny’s neck first and then snapped her bra off. When it came down to it, Sunny couldn’t make a noise. She was moaning in her thoughts instead.

“Yum yum,” Sooyoung whispered into Sunny’s ear while fondling the two soft mounds in front of her.

Sunny could already feel herself sweating. Interest piqued, she grabbed a hold of Sooyoung’s pants and unzipped them. Then her hand snaked in between-

“Woah,” Sooyoung managed to hold a gasp back. Then she smiled after realizing that she had come into contact with a familiar slenderness. “I think I’ll try to make you scream now.”

Sooyoung devoured the librarian’s lips as they both got down on the floor. Sunny’s thrusts were consistent until felt something unfamiliar brushing against the mound in between her legs. Her fingers were suddenly at a pause.

“Sooyoungie… wh-what the hell… is that?” She tried to look down at what was pressing against her only to find that Sooyoung had slipped her panties a few inches down and grabbed a book, whose spine was colliding with the heat within her. She winced in slight pain.

“You told me to make you scream,” Sooyoung answered smugly as she pushed the book’s spine harder into the melting entrance. She could no longer feel Sunny moving about inside her.

“Don’t…” Sunny began to plead, the pain already starting to intensify. She tried to keep her voice down as her folds continued to be spread out by the hard material that Sooyoung decided to use. She moved her legs in hope of breaking free but failed.

“Ssshh, Sunny bunny,” Sooyoung teased as she licked the tears off of the corner of Sunny’s eye. “Just tell me to stop and then I’ll stop.”

But neither one wanted to stop, much less willing to even think about doing so.

Sunny was panting, slowly forgetting about the pain and wanting more of the rough collision. All because Sooyoung was brushing over a very sensitive spot.

“Just tell me to stop,” Sooyoung repeated.

Sunny shook her head and then willed herself to enter an all too familiar throbbing once again. “If you’re going to hurt me then I just have to get back at you,” she said before thrusting into it as if she really was out with a vengeance. The backlash came in an instant as the book crushed harder into her.

Sooyoung kept her own moaning hushed, trying to maintain the silence. “See how good books are?”

Sunny kept thrusting in and out while she closed her legs to trap the book in place.  She tried to nod. “Well… at least they’re good for something.”

Both of them were wriggling on the floor while the two figures on the other side of the shelf were getting ready to leave. The two pairs were oblivious to each other’s presence. They simply wanted a spot for themselves in the midst of the peaceful haven.

The scene got messier after Sunny finished, dampening the old book. Sooyoung pulled the edge of the spine out and tossed the book aside. “Sunny bunny, you’re all dirty.” She smirked at the exhausted girl under her. She couldn’t tell Sunny’s tears apart from her sweat anymore. The latter had just pulled out of the familiar throbbing herself, unable to finish Sooyoung off.

“Then lick it clean.” Sunny let out a breath. She was still panting. Sooyoung stared at her in amusement. “Won’t you please lick it clean?” Sunny continued with a wink full of aegyo.

“Well, I am a bit thirsty,” Sooyoung replied before lunging at the quivering folds. She split the walls apart and kissed the soft mound of flesh.

Sunny wrapped her legs around Sooyoung’s neck and pressed herself downwards as she came into contact with a wriggling tongue.

The moaning remained in Sunny’s thoughts, in sync with the slurping sounds Sooyoung made in between her legs.

Sooyoung could barely breathe. But she kept on swallowing, trying hard to ignore the fact that Sunny was nearly choking her with her legs. “Mrrrr! Shhuuuuny!”

But it had gotten worse. She groped up Sunny’s abdomen to demand release.

Lost in pleasure, Sunny continued to feel down on the head in between her legs. She didn’t notice the nails that dug into the sides of her body as the poor Sooyoung begged for her to let go. “Shhuuuunny!!” went the muffled cry.

“Oh shit.” Sunny, finally realizing what had been going on, spread her legs. Sooyoung got up and inhaled as much air as possible, causing her to cough after taking in the dust. A figure nearby almost screamed after hearing a gasp from behind the shelves.

“Bleh!”

Sunny sat up and patted Sooyoung’s back. “Sorry.”

Sooyoung cleared her throat. “It’s okay.” She smiled. “Are you tired?”

“A little bit,” Sunny replied shyly as she pulled her panties back up and strapped her bra back on. “Let’s finish this some other time.” Then she continued to dress.

Sooyoung sighed and zipped her pants up before wiping the sweat off of her brow. “Yeah. Let’s go get ice cream.”

“I still have work, remember?” Sunny dusted off the remnants of their mess. The figure on the other side had just finished returning some books.

“It’s just a little ice cream. Please?”

“Okay. But please don’t make that face again. It’s weird.” Sunny giggled.

“Deal.” Sooyoung smiled. “But what are we going to do with that book?” she pointed to the damp and tattered mess on the floor.

“Would you like to lick it clean, too?” Sunny joked.

“Just like licking an ice cream cone?”

“Eeeew! That’s disgusting. Let’s not think about it. I was only joking, you know?” Sunny cringed at the thought of Sooyoung feasting on the dirty book.

“Let’s go get real ice cream then.” Sooyoung held out her hand.

“Yeah, after I wash up. You’re so unfair! You didn’t even get your fingers dirty!” Sunny’s voice was starting to sound louder. The figure on the other side heard the rest of the conversation and took a peek in between the blank spaces in the shelves, which led to her discovery of the book in question.

Sooyoung shrugged. “Well what can I say? I do a clean job.”

The figure’s eyes widened upon realizing what had just taken place inches away from where she stood.

“Clean?” Sunny tip-toed and pressed her lips against the taller girl’s. “You still have some around your mouth.”

Sooyoung stood there, dumbfounded. She had forgotten how sweet Sunny could be. “Tsk. Darn this.” She hit her forehead with her palm.

“Hm? What’s the matter Sooyoungie?” Sunny caressed the tall girl’s cheek with her clean hand.

“I can fuck you without a fuss. But a simple kiss sends butterflies circling around my stomach. It’s embarrassing,”

“Thanks for admitting that.” Sunny giggled. “By the way, you should stop smoking, you know?”

“What?” Sooyoung frowned.

“I’ve been tasting nothing but the smoke in your mouth.” Sunny shook her head, clicking her tongue. “How many times do I have to tell you that it’s not good for you?”

“You don’t have to tell me again, okay? I just had a stick or two,” Sooyoung defended. She was just about ready to turn her back and leave the library. It was getting hard for her to whisper.

“If you had to choose,” Sunny leaned on Sooyoung’s arm, “me or cigarettes?”

“What the-Let’s just forget about it. Come on.” Sooyoung ended the conversation and grabbed Sunny’s hand. “Oh shit. I grabbed your dirty hand.” She bit her lip as they walked.

Sunny didn’t say anything. She found the flustered Sooyoung quite amusing. The figure from behind the shelf followed closely behind them.

“I’ll treat you to ice cream, okay?” Sunny offered after they left the restroom. Sooyoung was still feeling quite embarrassed as they made their way to the ice cream parlor.

“It’s okay. I can pay for it,” Sooyoung replied with both hands jammed inside her pockets. Her eyes were glued to what was ahead of her in an attempt not to catch Sunny’s eye.

“Why don’t you let me do something for you just this once?” Sunny suddenly stepped in front of the taller girl. “This is not a one-sided relationship, you know?” she continued while the passers-by took notice of them. The figure, who was still following them, continued to listen to their conversation.

“I know that it isn’t. It’s just that I-” The taller girl swallowed her words and began walking again. Unlike Sunny, she actually cared about why the people around them were staring.

Sunny remained in place for around a minute before she decided to run after Sooyoung. “Wait up!” she grabbed the taller girl’s arm. “Fine. You can pay for the ice cream, but please tell me what’s going on. Is it because of the smoking thing? Or because I joked about the book? Or because-”

“I don’t want to lean on you,” Sooyoung cut Sunny off. She stared at the floor in embarrassment once more. “I know it isn’t a big deal, but that’s it. Let’s not talk about it.”

“I won’t do drugs,” Sunny replied with a smile as she tilted the taller girl’s chin to face her. “And I won’t commit suicide, okay?”

Sooyoung laughed upon hearing the ridiculous reply. “Quit playing with me, okay?” she finally smiled. The passers-by once again stopped to eye the couple. The figure, on the other hand, had no time to stop and stare. She hurried on and left.

“I’m not,” Sunny replied as she scrunched her face in annoyance. “And I’m not asking you to lean on me. I’m asking you to stand by me.”

“You’ve been playing too many dating sims.” Sooyoung playfully poked Sunny’s forehead. “Or reading pick-up lines, but yeah I get it. Let’s go. I’m really hungry,” she continued as her hand slipped into Sunny’s and they started walking again. Their destination was fairly close.

“Dating sims are cool, too,” Sunny muttered.

Sooyoung opened the shop door with her other hand before the two of them proceeded inside. The milky scent that lingered inside made Sooyoung’s mouth water. They rushed to the counter.

“We’ll take one order of that.” Sooyoung pointed to the ‘week’s special.’

Sunny’s eyes wandered until she noticed the most peculiar thing. “Sooyoungie, this ice cream parlor has a pizza stand.” She pointed to the stall adjacent to the counter. “Wanna buy some?”

“Sure.”

Sooyoung let go of Sunny’s hand so the latter could order a few slices. The person behind the counter seemed to have panicked upon seeing the librarian’s smiling face.

“Oh. G-good a-afternoon.” The pizza girl bowed. She tried not to stutter while she stared at the familiar customer in front of her.

“Hello!” Sunny greeted with her wide grin. “I’d like to take an order of…”

But in the girl’s mind Sunny’s words became a blur. She recalled what she witnessed in the library and though she didn’t really see it, she could easily imagine how it went on. Guilt came over her.

“Uh, did you get that?” Sunny tried to get the girl’s attention. “Hello? Uh, Seo-Seohyun?” Sunny read the girl’s name tag, which caused the latter to feel more distressed.

“I’m sorry.” Seohyun bowed. “Please forgive me.”

“Huh?” Sunny raised an eyebrow.

“What’s up?” Sooyoung arrived with a large bowl in her hands. “Did you get the pizza?”

“I think something’s wrong with her,” Sunny replied in a whisper as both she and Sooyoung eyed the girl who was stuck in a 90-degree bow.

“What did you do?” Sooyoung whispered.

“I was just ordering,” Sunny whispered back. Seohyun was still bowing with her eyes closed tight. She was probably hoping the two girls she caught in the library would leave after seeing her act strangely. It was obviously not a good plan.

“Yo!” Sooyoung kicked the stall. “We’re customers!”

“Stop that,” Sunny scolded the impatient Sooyoung. “We’re really sorry. We just want to order.” Sunny turned to the girl who was now standing upright after hearing the loud bang from Sooyoung’s kick.

“Uhm, okay. Sorry about that,” Seohyun replied but kept her gaze on the cash register. “Please tell me what you’ll have.”

“That’s more like it.” Sooyoung beamed at the embarrassed pizza girl. “We’ll take a whole box of your pepperoni pizza.”

Seohyun nodded and pressed a few buttons on the cash register. She held out her hand to accept the payment. still avoiding eye contact.

“Hey, haven’t I seen you before?” Sunny looked curiously at the girl behind the cash register. “I swear I have!”

“N-no way.” Seohyun managed to let out a nervous giggle as she returned the change.

“But you really do look familiar! Do you go to the school near here?” Sunny continued to interrogate the poor girl. Sooyoung was already taking a few spoonfuls of the ‘week’s special.’

“Ye-yes I do,” Seohyun hesitantly replied, realizing that she easily exposed that she had lied. She was a frequent visitor of the library and knew Sunny as the librarian. And suddenly, the messy scene she saw awhile ago disturbed her even more when she remembered that the librarian was involved.

“I knew it!” Sunny did a thumbs-up. “So you work here, huh?”

Seohyun nodded. She heard a bit of murmuring and looked up to find that a line had formed behind Sunny. She used it as an opportunity to escape from the librarian. “Uh, I’m sorry to have to ask you to move, but there are people behind you. Here’s your pizza.”

Sunny took the box before turning around and realized that there was a fuss. She then bowed to the people in apology and moved aside. As a kind gesture, she smiled at Seohyun and waved to say goodbye. The pizza girl let out a sigh of relief. Sooyoung had already sat down at a table and was trying hard not to take another bite.

“Awww, you left some for me?” Sunny pinched Sooyoung’s cheeks.

“Yeah well, you’re not the only one who can be sweet around here,” Sooyoung replied feeling rather proud of herself for not giving in to the temptation of eating the rest of the ‘week’s special.’

Sunny sat down and ate a spoonful. “Mmmm… It’s really good!”

Seohyun stared at the couple from her stall as she gave out the pizza and took the payments. She couldn’t help but feel like she was violated in some way or maybe she longed for something like what she saw - some kind of escape or deviance.

“Thank you for buying.” She smiled at the last customer in line. Then she stole another glance of the couple enjoying their ice cream and their pizza. “I wonder what this burning feeling is,” she whispered to herself as she closed the cash register.
