You have high expectations for your students. You know they're not going to do any of that, right?

That aside I must admit, I'm always up for a drink.

...Yes, quite likely. Heaven knows I didn't do my History of Magic homework after the first week of first year.

Nonetheless, I have high hopes for the lot. A new year, a new professor... You weren't around with the old one - nice enough chap, but he could put a charging rhinoceros to sleep.

I'm Arthur, by the way.

Good luck with that. I'm not sure what the best approach is, honestly. If they're overloaded with work from the beginning, they will get overwhelmed by mid-semester. But if it's too easy, they won't seriously apply themselves. I suppose it's finding the middle ground.

I'm Francis. Enchanté.

We can both use this for testing. XD donutsandestiny October 17 2011, 14:40:29 UTC
I'm afraid if you're hoping for my peers to take advantage of class as more than naptime, you're going to be quite disappointed.

Fine by me! reigning_albion October 17 2011, 16:48:30 UTC
It wasn't so long ago that I was a student myself - I remember full well what it was like.

However, there are other methods to teaching history besides a boring old lecture.

I don't think the method of teaching matters. It's the students that are the problem.

Then it's the students who will face the consequences. But I intend to try harder than my predecessor to engage the students.

I do believe we have a drinking party established, and the more the merrier!

I hope your classes go well. You have a hard class to work with as far as keeping student attention goes.

Oh, really? How exciting.

Don't I know you? You were a few years ahead of me, were you not?

Ah, yes. I'm hoping to get permission to try a more...interactive approach. We'll see how it goes.

Kirkland...yes that name does ring a bell. What house were you in?

I am excited to see the changes you are wanting to make to the program!
