I agree with you about Sam knowing not to fight and giving in to the impulses of his age to smack the bully down even though he knew better. I'm not even sure that was in the script so much as in the performance. It worked well either way.

(And as an aside, I also went to an IB school!)

I like to think that it was the writing, because the whole episode was actually a lot more subtle than the writers have been so far this season. Either way, I was happy, and I ended up in two thinky-thought discussions with people because of it already, so as far as I'm concerned it's better than my tv usually is.

(I am still undecided as to whether it was a good or bad thing that I was in IB, since my GPA suffered from being a smart but unmotivated kid in a room full of overachievers, but on the whole I think I am glad I did. Did you do diploma or certificate?)

Diploma. It worked out for me because I was able to do a double undergrad in four years because I elided a year and half off of my rerequecs and so on because of AP scores and IB bullcrap. I agree that it's a tough environment. I had no idea how insane it was until I was in my mid-20s and came to realize what a normal high school experience was (it certainly was NOT being pissed off you made a 95 on a test instead of a 98).

Wow, yeah, I know what you mean. Only, like I said, I was by comparison an underachiever. But I had to watch some of my friends almost kill themselves for school, and I was just... so very not willing to do that. It's kind of hurt me because I've swung too far the other way in college, but I'm working on it, and I still think I'm better off than some of my classmates.
