The Jonas Brothers have this new song called "Poison Ivy," which is... partly about a girl and partly about a rash-inducing plant? IDK. Anyway, the lyrics to the chorus are:

Everyone's allergic to poison ivy
Everyone's allergic to poison ivy
Everybody gets the itch
Everybody hates thatand then it cuts off in this LONG SIGNIFICANT PAUSE. What I ( Read more... )

I'm entertained that songs are still written about Poison Ivy (also being about a girl.)

The Coasters did it first in 1959... that's a great song. I am assuming neither of your boys' is covering that one. Just entertaining. Whenever I hear a song that can be taken to mean it's about a girl and the words "makes you itch" or "gets the itch"... makes me think VD.

ROFL.

Oh, it's too early to be this incoherent and amused.

Oh, no, the Hanson one is a cover of The Coasters! Thank you for telling me about that because I thought it was probably a cover but I didn't know the original band.

Yeah, the chorus basically looks like it's about a girl with VD who's spreading it around and making everybody angry. That's awful! :-/

That really is awful...

I have always loved The Coasters version of that song. In fact, since I read your post this morning - it's been stuck in my head. haha. My favorite part is the "you're gonna need an ocean, of calamine lotion." That part gets in my head and goes for days.

Oh boys...

Poison Ivy also makes me think of that movie with Drew Barrymore. What a horrible movie. *shakes head*

I think this is probably the most random conversation I've had today. Thank you for that. *hug*

So I guess first The Coasters did it (video), and then Hanson covered it on an album they made in 1995, (before they were signed, I think), (video of sorts). And now the Jonas Brothers are resurrecting the concept!

I was astounded too! I still am! Because it's not, like... a subtle pause! Where things could just be misconstrued! It's a full-out, Joe whips his head away from the mic to keep from saying something he shouldn't, meaningful pause. But they do sort of have a precedent with "kiss the past" instead of "kiss my ass" in Video Girl. :-/
