intolerance for deviance

I don't understand why people in fandom have such a hard time saying "that isn't my thing" instead of "EW." Like, if *I* can say it for things like figging (haha) and prolapse fic, why can't other people say it for things like het and wincest? It's not hard!

I had to look up "figging" just now because I didn't know what it meant. Thank you for that bit of education. (OUCH.)

OH, sorry. Hahaha. I didn't know what it meant until like a month ago. It seems like it should be called gingering! At least then you know it's something you don't want to look up. :-/

I admit, I was kind of disappointed that it had nothing to do with figs. But I suppose ginger provides a more, ah, intense experience?

That drives me crazy too... most people know that I don't read slash, particularly Colby/Charlie - but I still appreciate the time and effort that goes into creating the work. Even if I don't read the fic, I usually comment when someone posts to savecolby because I appreciate them sharing. That's a scary thing to do and it should be acknowledge with tolerance and not childish comments. If you don't like it - don't read it. That's a strange concept.

OMG, you didn't comment when I posted to savecolby! *sniff* ;-)

I think people are mostly pretty good about not commenting to fics just to trash the contents, but I see a lot of "ew, not *insert objectionable subject here*" in other types of posts and conversations (such as at spnstoryfinders).

Also, I have a really hard time remembering who reads what on my flist. Some read incest, some read slash, some read both of those when they're in the MOOD for it, some read het, some read only certain pairings, some don't ever read gen, some read only FPS and some only RPS... So I figure probably the BEST policy is to talk about the things I love and write the things I want to write, and not make assumptions about other peoples' preferences. (Actually, I've been meaning for ages to make a post/poll-type-thing asking people about what exactly they like to read and write, just so I can keep things straight, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.)

Are you sure I didn't comment when you posted to savecolby? *pouts* I sowwy. I know I try to... especially when people I adore post. *pets you*

the BEST policy is to talk about the things I love and write the things I want to write, and not make assumptions about other peoples' preferences.

That is the best policy. After all, that is why we all always post warnings and pairings, etc. Inform the reader of what's happening and then they can choose to read or not to read. And if they read it and don't like it because "it's not their thing" well that's their own damned fault and does not warrant "ew" comments. That's my two cents. LOL.

Haha. I was talking about this fic, but I seem to remember you saying something about not liking Colby/OFC if the OFC isn't yours, so I didn't hold it against you. ;-)

Your two cents mak--oh. I was about to say "your two cents make a lot of sense," but... that sounds funny. Um. Your two cents are very sensible? :-/

why they do this??? it is cause they are childish assholes.

no like, no read. is my policy.

as long as the author is courteous enough to label fic than everyone knows what they should check out or avoid...

Haha, no, honestly I don't think everybody who does what I'm talking about are childish assholes. Sometimes they're just people, and they're not thinking about the fact that other people might not feel the way they do.

(...sometimes they're just assholes, though, yeah.)

*wonders what she missed while working a 12 hour shift by herself*

You know I just have to be in the mood for certain pairings. Sometimes I crave a good eppescest piece, sometimes I like het that's not don/megan jo/anyone. (i kinda made her sound like a whore, didn't i? oops)

*hugs and glares at whoever pissed you off*

Oh, you didn't really miss anything, exactly... I mean, it wasn't like somebody said something directly to ME that pissed me off. Since this is a public entry I'll tell you the details in IM, though.

Ahaha, I read that as Don/Megan/Jo/Anyone. O.o Gaaahhh, Jo...
