A/N: I had this ready last night, it's not perfect, but it's setting up where I want it to be... it does get exciting, well as exciting as it can get in rainy London... also, thank you so much for the comments, am relieved of the encouragement. Now this is up, I may actually start doing research which I am so unmotivated to do.
Chapter Three: The Rain
“Hey!” Cristina yelled as Callie took her glass and downed the contents in one gulp. Callie challenged her to say anything more and Cristina sighed, “I’ll get some more.”
Callie watched as Cristina walked to the busy bar before glancing over at the darts board, remembering fondly her first game with Erica, before allowing the anger to tumble back in.
“So, guessing she wasn’t happy to see us,” Cristina asked as she dropped a glass in front of the brunette. Callie shook her head, drinking her drink quickly.
“I’ve had enough of London,” Callie announced after a few moments silence. Cristina sighed.
“We are thousands of miles away from home, and I still can’t escape drama,” Cristina complained. “What did you think would happen? She would welcome you with open arms… let’s just drink.”
“Fine,” Callie knew Cristina didn’t do talking, but she also knew Cristina would let her talk. Cristina had let her talk since that day the two of them found themselves becoming friends. A day they had both tried to avoid, as Cristina doesn’t do friends and Callie doesn’t do people. As far as they were concerned they were room-mates, colleagues even… but friends, they weren’t friends. Then came that day.
“You should talk to her,” Cristina broke through Callie’s thoughts. “Talk girl, or whatever it is you do.”
Callie laughed, “Talk girl?”
Cristina nodded, “Anything to stop you from ruining my vacation.”
Callie sighed guiltily, “If it were Burke?”
“I’d kill him… slowly, but this is not Burke… this is Attilla the Hahn,” Cristina answered, sipping her drink slowly, watching her friend closely, “Look, there’s this crap people talk about… this closure thing… apparently, it’s good for you. Talk and close.”
“Do you describe everything like surgery?” Callie joked.
“Surgery makes sense and there’s none of this emotional, girl talk crap that comes with it,” Cristina defended herself.
“What the hell would I talk to her about?” Callie asked. “You know what, this is your vacation… and I tried talking to her and she didn’t care, so screw her… let’s get drunk.”
“Here, here,” Cristina cheered, clinking her glass against Callie’s.
*****************************
“I think that’s a church,” Cristina slurred as Callie nodded.
“No… it’s a hostel,” Callie confirmed as they studied the door.
“The church is the hostel?” Cristina asked and then laughed.
“No, the hostel is the hostel… the church is…” Callie looked around. “There is no church.”
“Sure there is,” Cristina stated as she walked further up the road. “There must be a church.”
“Why?” Callie hiccuped. She laughed again when her friend shrugged.
“Where is the hotel?” Cristina swayed into the road for the umpteenth time, before being pulled back by the taller woman. “This city is just…. Strange.”
“Wait!” Callie stopped in her steps, “You don’t know where the hotel is?”
“I was following you.”
“I was following you.”
“Why do that?” Cristina looked around, “Wait there it is… the hotel!”
“Yay!” Callie laughed again, before walking straight into the smaller woman’s back. “What?”
“I never thought I’d be on a vacation with you,” Cristina, mirth leaving her voice.
“I never thought you’d be on a vacation. Period,” Callie grinned. Cristina pushed her. “Seriously, you live and breathe for surgeries.”
“And look where that got me?” Cristina sulked.
“It wasn’t your fault,” Callie would have hugged her, but knew that she would have been pushed away, so instead nudged into her.
The smaller woman pushed her, and laughed as Callie fell backwards onto the ground.
“I have a head injury you know!” Callie said before laughing again.
Cristina pulled the taller woman up and pushed open the hotel door, laughing insanely at nothing.
Callie turned to her and frowned as Cristina’s smile faded. She turned around to see Erica sitting in the lobby, watching her.
“I’m going to go… yeah,” Cristina stated as she looked from woman to woman before leaving.
Callie watched as Erica stood up and walked towards her.
“You put the hotel down as your address,” Erica answered the unasked question. Callie nodded and waited. She studied the blonde, still soaked from the rainfall, her blonde tresses sticking to her pale skin, her jacket glistening in the lights, her blue eyes shielding the inside from the outside.
Erica cleared her throat, “I shouldn’t have walked away… not tonight, I mean I shouldn’t have walked away four years ago but everytime I think about it, which is a lot, I keep thinking that you should have followed me. And I may be incapable of understanding the basic actions of people towards another, but I know that you should have followed. So I just find myself wondering why didn’t you follow… and the only reason I can think of is that you didn’t want to.”
Callie couldn’t bring herself to speak, and watched as Erica picked up her bag and walk past her.
“Wait!” Callie called as the blonde pulled open the door to step into the torrential rain. “Yes, I should have followed you… but I didn’t… I’m sorry.”
Erica nodded and smiled, “I know you are.”
Callie smiled back, “London?”
Erica laughed, “I get to say I am the best cardio-thoracic surgeon in the country with ease now.”
Callie laughed, “You are the best.”
Erica looked outside watching the rain fall before looking back at the dark, warm eyes watching her, “I should go. You look good… enjoy London.”
“Erica wait!” Callie stepped closer to her, “I-I-I… I am in London for another few days… with Cristina… it’s this vacation thing she is doing…”
“The rain makes me think of Seattle, and everytime I think of Seattle I think of you… It rains a lot here, and I mean a lot, so I think of Seattle a lot…” Erica looked out at the rain drops, dancing against the glass, falling to the ground, making near silent music. “I think of Seattle a lot… so don’t ask what you are going to ask… because it’s always raining here.”
Callie watched her former lover step into the rain, and sighed when the blue eyes looked up into the rain, before looking back at her. Callie nodded, and turned away.
“You’re a bigger idiot than I thought,” Cristina announced as Callie saw her watching.
