As a pagan I've heard the phrase "The Goddess helps those who help themselves." I'd like to offer an addendum. "The Goddess helps those who help themselves and that especially includes those that have the sense to ask for help when they need it." Kinda goes along with the whole "Nobody's perfect" thing...

between being taught that self-reliance is a virtue and asking for help is a sign of weakness, and finding out that even if we do ask, most of the time nobody helps us anyway (or the help is too late in coming, or makes the situation worse)... some of us get so used to having to do everything ourselves that we never even think to ask for help...
