AT&T Just Killed Unlimited Wireless Data (and Screwed Everybody in the Process)

Caution to all my friends with iPhones and anyone considering one.

I hope this causes enought people to jump ship so that all the other cel phone companies DON'T try this. If they do, I'm totally down grading my phone.

Thanks for the head's up! At first I was nervous, but then I remembered I rarely use my data plan! :) I might actually downgrade my plan significantly because of this.

If you already have an unlimited smartphone data plan and you renew your contract after June 7, as long as you don't change your plan, you can keep on keepin' on with your unlimited plan. In other words, you can get a new smartphone, but keep the same plan-then you're grandfathered in with unlimited data. Same deal with the iPad: If you start an unlimited data plan before June 7, and let it keep automatically renewing, you'll keep unlimited data.

Hmmm, I'll still listen to Verizon, T-Mobile, what have you when my contract is up (not 'til next year), but it looks like I'm safe. Although there might be a loophole because I got my plan through LetsTalk.com.

I'M SO CONFUSED WHAT HAPPENED. Is this for like downloading or just being on the net?

I feel like I am making this more complicated than it is.

I find it confusing too. I'm thankful to not be an AT&T customer right now.

From what I read, anyone getting a new plan will not be able to select unlimited usage for a flat rate. All internet usage will be limited and if you go over, *cha-ching* they cash in and charge you more.

Essentially new customers will be getting less for a higher cost and people will have to watch their data usage like a hawk. What a pain!

I foresee Sprint ramping up advertisements for their "Simply Everything" plan even more now, in the hopes of snagging some more customers.

apparently this only affects new customers. If your an existing customer with the unlimited plan, you keep it.
People who want an ipad are SCREWED.
