A recent post about forgiveness got me thinking about the following.

Fiddler - Part 1, Tzeitel )

high school, musical, head space, mental health

That's so awful.

Yes, teacher directors can be bigger prima donnas than Broadway professionals.

We ended up doing Three Penny Opera, a piece that we were in *no* way able to accomplish. I had fun, and got to be on stage (they were so desperate for people), but really, we'd have done better on a piece of music with less...range.

: )

Just some comments on Fiddler.

We did Fiddler in college, and my spouse to be was in the orchestra playing the french horn. I got to know quite a few people I'd never have had the chance to meet if I'd not been involved, and I count my blessings for that. Our director wanted everything to be exactly like the movie.

Since Fiddler was my *first* Broadway stage show (we saw it with Herschel Bernardi instead of Zero Mostel), I felt that was a mistake. But it was a fun show, and we had a good time moving the houses around (we had nifty sets).

I never got cast in ANYTHING in high school. I was -- get this -- a male chorus member in Fiddler, because I sang tenor in our choir. I remember being overjoyed about it at the time because at least the men had less annoying costumes and more fun songs -- but, yeah, I know what you mean. At least you don't have the same memory my cousin does of that show -- she was a sophomore at the time and got cast as one of the youngest daughters. Why? Because she's short. That's honestly the only reason. Casting can be stupid.

Though, the part about the pit not playing everything is REALLY dumb.
