typos in real estate

I will occasionlly look at house listings on realtor.com. Despite not having the stability to buy a house, it never hurts to look. Today not only did I find an awesome listing but I found something quite funny.

nope, it's proper. in this case "bones" actually refers to the framework of the house.

o_O for real? Not that I don't believe you, but I can't seem to find bones as a term related to real estate.

yay for the OED.

12. a. The hard framework or ‘skeleton’ of anything, e.g. of a ship.

1634 SIR T. HERBERT Trav. 209 The shipwracke of a Dutch Ship cald the Mauritias that laid her bones here. 1854 THACKERAY Newcomes I. 89 Curtains were taken down, mattresses explored, every bone in bed dislocated and washed. 1868 BAKER Cast up by Sea iii. 46 Steer straight between the fires..she'll break her bones if she follows. 1878 N. Amer. Rev. CXXVI.

i think it's something i picked up from the construction working dad or the years of toil in hardware stores. but yeah, it's not popping up in general real estate glossaries.

Despite this discussion on why bones is not an error, I still find it funny as someone not immersed in the real estate or construction industry.

By drawing attention to the "great bones," my guess is that the non-bones parts (counters, floors, and so on) need work. Thats also one hell of a low price for Sq Hill.

Yeah I thought the price was great too. It's one of those homes on beechwood blvd overlooking 376 at that disaster of an exchange.

The house is as solid as a rock, but it's going to cost you $200,000 to be able to even move in...

That website is great! I feel like I will be checking it out every now and then! Maybe in three years I will know which city I will be living in...

I'd usually interpret the above comment as being similar to "fixer-upper", except that hopefully the fixing needed shouldn't require building permits or major structural repair. For someone planning on doing things themselves and/or living there while renovations are in progress, this can be important, but you really can't count on statements like this; any sort of comment like the above should be a warning sign to go the extra mile on professional independent inspection.
