Lock the Library! Rowdy Students Are Taking OverIn short, a library in NJ will be closed on weekdays from 2:45 - 5pm. Their reason, teenagers using the library as a place to hang out after school. While it might seem impressive that so many teenagers want to be in the library, this batch of kids is not so good. They will be loud, obnoxious, and ( Read more... )

our main library has that problem too. parents dump their kids there for lack of anything else to do with them.

And of course my very favorite, there were two assaults at one of the branches last week. one, one kid followed another kid into the bathroom then held him up and stole his shoes. And the other one, one man told another to be quiet and when the man didn't be quiet, dude stabbed him.

This is what happens when kids get together in big groups. Observe: many of the larger Tekko meetups and Tekko 1/2. Most of the kids we see there are great kids, but they get excited and loud when they're together, which means they forget themselves. And then, of course, you have some kids who are spoiled and/or rude and/or just don't care.

Why not just ban them from the library? If you start hanging out at the court house lobby making messes and being noisy and mischievious, they'll throw you out on your ass. I don't see why any other public building is any different. I don't stop parking my car on the street cause local kids are screwing around with it. Instead I call the cops and press charges.

That would require parents have to actually take some responsibility for their own kids. Heaven forbid that happen.

That's the beauty of pressing charges. You don't need the parents to take responsibility to get the result you need.

It's possible that enforcement of any no people under age X during Y times might be more trouble than just closing. *shrug*

All I know is that I'm sick of hearing about teenagers being stupid and roudy thus causing a need to ban them from certain establishments. Are they so learning impaired that they can't change their behavior to be normal?
