Next on deck is either Tactics A2 or The World Ends with You. Square-Enix owns my video gaming life.

I took some time over the long weekend last week to pick up and finally finish Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. For whatever reason, I set the game down with two or three things left to do and didn't touch it for months. When I finally did, I had to spend about half an hour remembering how to play. The same thing happened to me with Final Fantasy XII and Kingdom Hearts 2. Maybe I don't want the ride to end yet. Maybe I need some time to recharge after playing for so long; they are lengthy games.

Anyway, RW is a lot of fun, but definitely skippable. It's great to see the XII characters reunite, but nothing that important happens to them. You get yet another Ivalician race (the aegyl, basically humes with angel wings and a serious manner) and an extension of the mythology of Ivalice, but again, it's not essential to the broader story.

I started Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days yesterday. I've heard mixed reviews, but so far I'm a fan. The controls are a lot easier than I heard, especially after I changed the camera controls. The story is a bit more pouty then I prefer, but it's isn't unbearably whiny. Yet.

So far, this game is surprisingly new player friendly. Even if you've never played a Kingdom Hearts before you wouldn't be confused as to who everyone is and what they are doing. Since the POV character, Roxas, is a newbie, he gets things explained to him as they come up.

It's also surprisingly old player friendly. I know what happens in the broader KH universe and what happens to Roxas eventually, but there are new plot points here which I am completely in the dark about.

I think a lot of my good will towards this game is the fact that I'm happy to be back into a Kingdom Hearts game. It's been years since I played KH2 for the first time and a long time since my last re-play of any of them. 358/2 is going to need more than nostalgia to keep me interested. So far, so good.

ETA: It's been over 3 years since I played a KH game. Whoa. I thought it was like one or two. Time flies...

KH UNIVERSE SPOILER: I'm interested in how the game handles half of it's characters dying fairly early off-screen on due to the events of KH: Chain of Memories. KH2 just glossed over the oddity of fighting something called "Organization XIII" which only had like 7 people in it.
