Venting works, and Who's Responsible?

I vented about something today, just typed it out and saved it. Amazing how you can have something stuck in your head, and if you just write it out, it can clear out and not bother you anymore. This must be how real writers feel all the time ( Read more... )

No, I think your right. It seemed stupid to me. I mean, I feel like I'm responsible for my *actions*, and I can have some control over things. Like, if someone insults me I can be responsible to not hit them. But they are responsible for hurting my feelings. I can do what I want with the aftermath of that, but someone says something hurtful, it hurts and has nothing to do with how thick/thin-skinned you are or your own weakness or anything. It's their issue, and they've just made it yours too. I can't decide not to let certain things hurt me. I can resolve not to take it so personally, but when it comes down to it, I can't make my emotions obey my will. So WORD to you.

I am all for grudge-holding, bitterness, and rage.

Sweet! A kindred spirit. :-D

Maybe some people are truly unaware of what morons they are, in which case, you *are* helping them by pointing it out. Maybe they'll learn to change their moronic behavior in the future. :-)

I've always thought that philosophy was crap. I think the people who believe that are really just stuffing their feelings away and being falsely happy. If you could just decide to not let anyone hurt you, and to be happy no matter what, wouldn't everyone just do it?

I just realized that I'm not logged in, it's 1_bad_idea. I didn't mean to be anonymous, but I'm at my sister's house, so I don't have my password cookies.

Heh. It's the new lj comment page's fault. :-)

Maybe not everyone is strong enough to just be happy regardless of hurt. Although I think your theory about denial is a good one, too. Either that, or they haven't really been hurt by anyone.
