This sounds just so infuriating! Can't these people be evicted onto the street? Surely after some date houses belong to new owners? You've probably explained all this before but argh! Hang in there :)
Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of the UK property market, where no one puts pen to paper until they're good and ready.
Completion (i.e. moving) date is never set in stone until contracts are exchanged, and contracts aren't exchanged until everyone in the chain feels like it. You put your offer in, get a solicitor to do their various checks, then.. wait. And wait. And wait, because unless you're very very lucky you still won't swap paperwork for months, even when you *know* you want that house and have no intention of backing out.
(I'm not at all pissed off with this crappy system, nooo... I can't wait to move to NZ)
