I liked the way the first two movies were done, honestly. I mean, yeah, they had their wretched moments, but they also had a lot of magic to them and very much that child innocence quality that the first book in particular has. I couldn't get over the problems in three... it was pretty, but prettiness can't make up for giant plot errors (regardless of the books).
I really, really wish Terry Gilliam had done them. It would have been amazing.
Okay, so I was being overdramatic when I said the first two films suck. They don't suck, but the overall look of them is sort of bright and happy and innocent, which is great for the first and okay for the second, but I can't imagine what PoA would have been like if Chris Columbus had stayed. It probably would have been closer to the book plot-wise but I think Cuaron's darkness was really great. I've got plenty of criticism for that movie, but for me, it succeeds in separating itself as a movie. It's a movie based on the book, but it's not a movie version of the book. And in that way I can appreciate both. I like the book more, but I can appreciate the movie because it is so different

That explains it. *rolls eyes* God, Mugglenet and their commenters.
Haha, I know, I know but Mugglenet was the first HP site I found way back in the day and I've sort of got an allegiance to it. It's basically just where I get my HP news though, the commenters over there are crazy.
I do like the first two, I just think they sort of pale in comparison with the latest two. Goblet of Fire is excellent and even though there was a lot that annoyed me about Prisoner of Azkaban, I thought it at least got the spirit of the story right. The first two movies just have a sort of "kid movie" feel, IMO. The third and fourth seem a little more grown up, although logically that would make sense, as Harry grows up.

I thought the first two were okay, that the third one was good except for the deletion of the MWPP backstory, and the fourth one was great.
