Yeah, I really want to have you guys over, just have to finish setting things up, at least in the living/kitchen areas. Probably mid august before we're at that point, but we'll see.

... The Riddler has not been used. And if you say he's not a good Batvillain, I will have to fly out there and hurt you.

"Riddle me this, Batman! When is a bat... not a bat??"

Meh, I've always thought of the Riddler as "Joker-light". He's like what the Joker would be if he didn't apply himself. Besides, he's not as dark a character, really, and wouldn't fit the tone they've built up in this incarnation of the Batman films. That's really what the issue is at this point with the films, they've burned through the darkest of the dark villains, and a lot of what is left just doesn't fit the established tone, and for them to go backwards on that at this point leads into Schumaker territory. Scarecrow was good for the first one, but they can't really use him as an A-list villain at this point because they've kind of demoted him from scary A-lister to crazy guy dealing drugs on a street corner. Al Ghul could come back, but then they have to go into the whole Lazarus Pit thing, which might be a bit hard for audiences to swallow since they've tried to stay somewhat grounded in reality so far.

I can see your point, however portrayals of The Joker have been done in comic relief before as well, which makes the possibility of a dark Riddler or Penguin a great possibility. There is a strong possibility of using Harley Quinn for a villain type if they can negotiate the Joker/Harley relationship without treading to close to Ledger's seemingly "unbeatable" performance - even though she's not traditional comic fare - which posits the accompanying Poison Ivy possibility as well.

And barring all that, there's still the dark version of Mad Hatter as well - especially given the pedophile angle.

The problem with some of the villains is that even at their darkest, they're just kind of goofy. Penguin has been done as dark as I think they can make him in Batman Returns, but even then he was kind of overly cartoonish. I think they'd be best off to stay away from anything involving Joker at this point, as they risk cheapening the performance.

I really just don't know where they go from here. Unless they just say "We've done better than we could have hoped, so we're just going to stop on a high note before we run the series into the ground." But even if they did, WB would find someone else to take over, there's too much potential money in it.
