A couple of things;

Originally it was supposed to be Superboy but for some reason it was changed. I don't know for sure but my guess is the ongoing legal squabble between DC and the Siegels over the rights of Superboy. If I'm right then they couldn't license the character.

Also, to be fair it is a very young Superman before he became the hero we know today. From what I have gathered he is learning the ropes, so to speak, in the future.

So it should all work out.

From everything I've heard, they'll be writing him a Superboy, so my guess is they just changed the name to get around the legal stuff but it's still really Superboy. ;)
