There is little more than a quick chirp as a warning before a small brown and yellow speckled bird zooms in through an open window. It loops the room twice before landing on the back of the couch, where it tilts its head at Seth and chirps at him.

Seth blinks and sits up. "Hi," he says quietly. Animals don't usually like him, so he does his very very best not to scare it off and away.

"I don't know if there's any birdseed. Do you want birdseed? Water?"

Not that he sees anything wrong with talking to an animal either.

Oh look. The bird seems to understand that, as it's shaking its head. A quick flap of small wings carries it to the table. Another trilling chirp and it hops over to tap its beak against the coffee-cup that Casper left there earlier.

"...You want coffee?" Seth swings his legs over the side of the couch and looks uncertain. "I think that that amount of caffeine might make your heart beat so fast and it'll explode in your chest."

He didn't quite expect this reaction, but he had guessed that Seth needed some sort of reassurance.

He hugs his son back tightly, his arms around his shoulders.

"Y'alright?"

"Yeah. I'm fine." He's going to hug Casper for just a minute or two. He hasn't been hugged too often in his life.
