"Come in," Date called as he leafed through the latest documents containing reports of robbery and piracy at the towns near the Badlands. At this late a night, reading these documents were the last of his concern. As much as possible, he would like to take a rest, unwind a little before they push on with their next battle.

At the call, Hijikata pushed the sliding tatami door to Date's room open, picking up the tray as he got back up and stepped inside. Balancing the tray with one hand after that, he closed back the door and immediately made a beeline towards where the general was.

"Your sake, sir," he went, as he moved to kneel down in order to set the tray properly before the other, bottle of sake with the cups in tow.

"Just on time." Date was relieved to hear Hijikata arrive. A minute longer and he would have torn all of these reports. As his retainer busied himself with his sake, Date slid his window open, letting the moonlight enter his window.

"Have the men taken their dinner?"

"Yes, they have," came the response from the younger samurai as he carefully tilted the (rather heavy) sake bottle and started to pour it out into the cups he had carried along on the tray. "Dinner finished about an hour ago," he went on, just as he finished pouring out the sake and set back the bottle.

That done, he picked up one of the cups and offered it towards the general and added somewhat as an afterthought. "Katakura-san is out at the fields tonight, so he won't be back until tomorrow morning."

Date ignored the comment and turned towards his retainer, holding out a hand on Hijikata's neck, feeling the warmth that was burning in him.

"Perhaps it was wrong to invite you for a drink." He underestimated the boy, thinking he would be able to take in the alcohol. However if... "Next time you're sick, it's all right if you don't serve me sake when Katakura's not around." Too bad, it would have been a lovely drink.

akl;jare akl;jare akl;jare what was up with this. Everything that his leader (his leader goddamnit) was doing now was so totally not helping with the current situation. He wasn't sick, no, and he really wasn't that quite drunk either (even if he was already somewhat tipsy from four cups of sake). It was just the fact that Date kind of happened to be too close to him. Hijikata was always the kind of person who had the need for a bigger personal bubble than most others, and having someone - especially someone like Date - to be in his bubble in this kind of... situation was just really really bad.

That (coarse but also nice and warm) hand on his neck wasn't really doing much help either.

"I-I-I-Its nothing like that, s-sir," he managed out, fumbling over his words even more than usual now. "I-I'm perfectly healthy, really!" He was just... kind of flustered at the moment, due to many reasons.

Is it now? itsadate August 4 2010, 13:22:54 UTC
"I find that hard to believe." Date snapped back, eyes narrowed as he doubted his retainer's actions. "You need not to over exert yourself just to serve me, Hijikata. I'm quite capable by myself." Not soon after, Date pulled away, taking his hand away from that neck, putting a distance between themselves again.

Hijikata blinked dumbly as Date withdrew, taking a few moments again as his somewhat alcohol-addled brain slowly digested what had happened and the younger samurai quickly scrambled back to his original position, looking quite embarrassed and ashamed of what had happened if the bowed head and flush was evident enough.

Trying (and mostly failing) to gather back his thoughts, the long-haired man could simply hope he wasn't going to say anything that might get him maimed as he spoke. "I-Its no trouble at all, sir, I-I'm pleased to serve you! ...I-I mean," oh god I'm so dead "I-Its nothing about you being capable or anything even though you are and um... um..." Hijikata fumbled over his words again, trying to get out something that would actually make some form of sense in his head. "...I-Its an honor to be with you sir, especially like this!"

"And what did that entail?" Because before he took a step forward, Date wanted to know what Hijikata wanted in this relationship. He wanted to see if Hijikata knew what Date wanted. That he wanted a companion and not a servant. A lover and not a whore. He didn't want to worry about place and position because politics was outside of love and in love there was no need to pretend... be nervous....

Hijikata gulped a little as he looked up, not quite sure what Date was trying to ask, but it wasn't going to be good if he left the question hanging either. Maybe he should just ask for clarification... "I'm not quite sure what you mean by that, sir."

He really was blaming the sake for all of this now.

"If you don't understand, then you can just return to your chambers." And he didn't bother to look back at Hijikata. He didn't want to meddle with anyone or someone who only spoke of love but never really knew what it meant to love someone.

"Its not that I don't understand, but..." Again, his head was back down, and Hijikata really had to hope he wasn't screwing this up - if he didn't do this now, he was certain he would never have another chance like this again. "...you're the first person I've ever felt this way for, sir, so I... I'm not very knowledgeable in these matters. I hope you can understand that."

He paused for a moment, and then added on quickly. "B-But I would like to know and understand, sir. W-With you... with you at my side." The last part was said out in an embarrassed mutter, and Hijikata quickly turned red again once he said that.

Date was leaving little kisses by Hijikata's ear when he heard his name.

"What is it?" he asked in between murmurs and kisses.

"I, um..." he started, only to trail off without warning, letting out a soft groan as he found himself quickly distracted by the kisses. He attempted to bury his head deeper, trying to partake in the warmth that came from Date. Who knew that his lord was really so warm and cozy?

The man's reaction was rather cute though and he couldn't help but smirk just little at that. "Lost for words, Hijikata?"

The voice quickly brought him back to reality, and Hijikata had to take a moment before he reluctantly pried himself away from Date momentarily, straightening himself as he looked at the other man shyly.

"I was just wondering, um..." he tried again, fidgeting a little now in uncertainty, cheeks burning red once more as he spoke. "...if it's okay to stay with you here for the night, sir."
