Sometimes I feel like we're making such progress in our country, and other times I feel like we're becoming medieval. Or that we're already there. I've never been able to wrap my head around hatred of a particular people or group. I don't even hate the Christian Right, they just make me despair. Sometimes it feels like most of the population has persecution hardwired in and we'll never be able to get rid of it. I think if a genie were to grant me a wish, it might be that every single copy of every religious text in the world would disappear from all media and from people's memories. It would be interesting to see what new messiahs would come out of that.

Pete isn't a terribly influential guy when all is said and done. I mean, he's popular within his own subculture, but outside of it I doubt most people even know who he is. He's kind of like a big name in fandom. So I rest in the assurance that his views are not the mainstream, but I'm keeping a wary eye on the Right.
