Oh Dear God...

Dec 29, 2007 16:56

... I think I have written and thought about Benazir Bhutto at least half of every day since her death. It's annoying, too, because I was/am not a fan, at all. If she shows up in my dreams, I'm going to hurt someone ( Read more... )

My thing was her white pseudo-hijab.

ugh don't even get me started. i actually read an article a while back about her wearing "hijab" in order to please the fundamentalists. i thought to myself, if that's what's going to count as hijab, then i'm a niqaabi haha!

Ugh, dear Lord, I don't give a damn about Bhutto either, but she's THE topic of discussion among my family members, and I'm always being dragged into it. It makes me want to scream, "PLEASE, just SHUT UP about the woman already!!!"

I KNOW!!! The best part is, the people who pretend she was so great are people who knew NOTHING about her before the assassination... I loathe most anything that is mainstream and popular lol.

Tell me about it. "Oh, a model of the great Muslim woman..., blah, blah". For pete's sake, she's just a little slave-dog of the U.S, what's so special about her? Anyone who does the things she does simply to seek Western acceptance is a disgrace to the Muslim world, and shouldn't be wept over.
I mean, it's not like it's NASRALLAH who was assasinated (Allah keep him forever for us), now that is a leader worthy of remembrance. Or Ahmedinejad, for that matter. Sheesh. Muslims are so embarrassing. >:(

hah part of me thinks you're being sarcastic with the nasrallah and ahmedinejad comments, simply because they are the equivalent of the devil in the writing of most everyone who discusses them. but clearly, that is not the case for the people of lebanon and iran... at least not the majority. i think they're both fascinating and that they've been demonized needlessly by the media. for instance, ahmedinejad's supposed quote about wiping israel off the map was actually him quoting khomeini who said that zionism needs to be eliminated... or something to that effect.

The only thing that I have said about her and will continue to say is that she was the last chance at some real change in Pakistan. I like Pervez Musharraf okay, but the reality is that he's too much of a coward to really dig out the corruption in the government.

Bhutto may have allowed the US to run rampant in the Pakistan government, but at least there would not be the cases of state-sanctioned human trafficking that is happening now.

Allahu 3alam if she would have been a positive force. Looking at her track record, I wouldn't have bet on it. I'm no fan of Musharraf though.

I think it's just going to be messy for a while in Pakistan... hopefully there will be minimal bloodshed and then a better government or at least one that is less worse than this one will emerge, insha'Allah.
