Today was the first time I ever heard someone get shot. That was a surreal experience, the kind where nothing seems to quite make sense. Especially at 5:45 pm at 17th and 8th in Manhattan.

Aside from that intrusion, New York has been lovely and hot, with a wonderful brunch this morning, a trip with loveschakto the Highline Park , which affords some ( Read more... )

So I was going down to the Highline park to meet some friends. I had dinner plans, but they were all hungry and headed up to this Italian restaurant at 17th and 8th. We sat outside, as it was a hot but nice summer evening, when suddenly the four double-bangs came out. People sort of looked around confused, and then you could hear a lot of screaming, and people started running. We watched the cops and the ambulances arrive, and eventually sat back down, but no one did much talking. I guess it's even harder to transition back to normal conversation when everyone else has already done so (as for me, my friend called a little while after, so I got an excuse to leave).

But that's crazy. In a nice part of downtown Manhattan in daylight hours?

Only two or three understudies I believe.

I really liked Anita, and Tony, while not exactly hitting the rumble scene, totally nailed the swooning love thing in a way that generated real chemistry and little annoyingness (the voice was slightly annoying). What took me out a little was the fact that guy playing Action looked exactly like the lead guy from Dawson's Creek.

It's one of mine too, and I was really happy to see it. I hope Next to Normal, Hair, and Our Town stick around for my next visit.

I have a high threshold for "too much to say."

In a couple months, I'll have another shot at seeing something. Currently contending are Next to Normal, Our Town, and Hair. Anything else I should be considering?

Whoa, shootings in Manhattan, in Chelsea? That's crazy.

Anyway, I'm back in the city now. Wanna hang out?

Oh no! I'm in DC as of last night. You could come down to Perdues on Friday, or I can hope to catch you when I'm back in November for a conference or over New Years.
