If true, this is especially sad. It is mystifying how someone can be your brother, watch over you, and play with you, but then just drop out of your life because your mother divorced his abusive father. If this is fiction, it is very well written.

Incredibly heartbreaking. Losing someone from your life, someone you didn't ever want to leave, it's one of the most painful things there is. I'm so sorry for someone having had that experience, whether it's you or a fictional person... that kind of festering, emotional wound has few matches in brutality.

100% true. My oldest brother is an asshole. But I will always consider him my brother and he is always welcome back in my life.

It's a heartbreaking tale but one that serves as an important reminder: people see "family" as something particular and that definition may not have any flexibility. I mean, it did when you lived together, but he seemed to, if you will, divorce himself from that after that split. It is curious how someone can see something as a true joy and bonding element and the other person views it as an obligation that ends when the need is over.

It would make sense that he wound up working in the film industry. A personality type like that is perfect for the movies: stay committed to the project while it is going 30, 60, 90 day shoot, then, when production is over, forget it and move on to the next one. At least you'll always have the Toy Store.
