On one hand, I'm glad The Promise is giving the colonies issue some spotlight. On the other, I fear for the handling of the issue. I agree with you that Song's help with the issue would have been highly beneficial. However, I think a couple of things aren't working in Song's favor. Her knowledge in these kinds of political matters is up to interpretation, really. At most, she'd just be working with her humble origins and experience as a refugee. That's probably not enough credibility to count on for working on the issue with the bigger players, despite being closer to the mess than the rest of them. Providing helpful input and opinions, definitely. But then, we get a whole new character - this Kori chick who's supposed to be a long-time colonial...
To explain better, I should add that I don't think she would be discredited by Aang or Zuko. The former is a believer in giving people their chance to speak (if I'm not giving Aang too much credit?), and the latter is someone who knows where she comes from. I think, if we

I agree and disagree to an extent--being a healer does give her a little more knowledge than the average villager about the politics of her nation. If not because the government would have direct control over the supplies and whatnot, than at least by being in a position that allows her to see people from all walks of life. You are definitely right in saying that the degree to which she is aware of anything is up for interpretation

God, I know, all these problems sticking out everywhere, and we haven't even gotten into the missing Ursa issue or what happened with Azula.
I have zero opinion on the colony girl, really, I'm just waiting to see what happens.
I'm trying to keep an open mind for Korra. I have to admit that I'm a sucker for it largely for the new material and ~*pretty*~ animation. But I can understand why you have little interest in it, too. The way things are being handled in The Promise, at least from the previews, is pretty face-palmy and makes the setting for Korra questionable. I'm just hoping Legend of Korra has its own identity more than having to rely on the previous series. (And all the post-war fanfic is now reeeaally AU, lol, OH WELL.)
Oh, I remember really liking that fancomic! And then I forgot the name, whoops. Thank you for posting about that comic & those characters; I've remembered how much I liked them.

You have a good point about Song, there.
