Three ways McCain could still win

  1. Arrange an "accident" for Palin. It doesn't have to be fatal, just bad enough to provide a good excuse to replace her. Sending her moose hunting with Cheney is probably too obvious, plus I'm not at all convinced Cheney could take her. 4. Bump off either Obama or Bush -- one would throw the Dems into a panic; the other would make republicans love him even more. Martyrdom -- it's still what's for breakfast.

Everybody seems to assume McCain WANTS to win this election.

I think it'd be far more beneficial to the Republican agenda to let the upcoming massive crisis be shouldered by not only a democrat, but a black one at that.

After everyone has forgotten that it was the Republican's policies that got them into this depression in the first place, they'll turn their eyes on how it's "obvious" a black democrat can't run the country, thereby ensuring a republican in office when all the shit dies down.

I'm pretty sure McCain wants to win the election, but that doesn't invalidate the rest of your theory. The Republicans could simultaneously be passing the buck to the Democrats, discrediting trouble-maker McCain, and positioning pawn Palin for later use.

Of course, I'm not sure how far that puts us into tin-foil hat territory, but it keeps looking more and more like it's a tin-foil hat kinda world.
