Earthquakes are thrilling, aren't they? I haven't experienced one myself for some time. Just as well, I suppose, since that one time was rather disastrous. The property damage this time around wasn't nearly as extensive, although I'm glad I wasn't actually in my laboratory at the time of the quake. One of my side projects didn't take kindly to ( Read more... )

unstable chemicals, extensive property damage, let's experiment!, science!, earthquake!, laboratory, curse, angst is counterproductive, city

Would you really? That would be appreciated, of course--thank you!

Of course! When do you want to head down?

As soon as possible! Would you mind terribly if a young lady named Umi were to come along?

Oh, you know--a crevice, a rift, a chink, a fissure, a... large split in the earth.

They're entirely normal products of earthquakes when the soil is composed a certain way. Regardless, nothing is normal here, so I suspect it's worth investigating.

I'm from California, so earthquakes don't really bother me, but I wouldn't really call them thrilling.

You apparently haven't been in the right places when earthquakes occur! If you're in a laboratory, they can be most thrilling, and, of course, they tend to release supernatural evils from the depths of hell...

Perhaps that's just in my world, though.

You know, I've seen a lot of terrible things in my line of work, but I have yet to see any supernatural evils from the depths of hell. I feel like I'm missing out.

No matter! If you give the City a week or so, I'm sure it will introduce you to such evils.

I highly recommend carrying a silver stake on your person if you plan on venturing out at night.

Generally speaking, I'm forced to consider the possibility that an earthquake of any significance is a portent of doom.

Oh, that's very possible! A number of terrible supernatural occurrences are related to earthquakes, and far be it for a 'natural' disaster in this city to be entirely natural.

You're not concerned?

Of course I am! Lives could be at stake, you know. There's no need to panic until we're actually in peril, however.

This place must be extraordinary dull that a mere tremor fascinates and sets everyone into panic.

Not everyone is panicking, as you might have noticed.

I did notice. I wonder why does a mild earthquake make such novel news.

Simply because everything in the City is a potential harbinger of doom.
