The more I read about nuclear fission, the more certain I am that it's a sincerely bad idea.  While the free energy that nuclear fission might provide is certainly tempting, the sheer destructive potential--well!  Anything that has the capacity to destroy the world is, in my books, something that really shouldn't be toyed with.  Accidents happen, ( Read more... )

This is such a long and rich entry, I don't know where to begin - well.

Weapons that can destroy the world, you say? That's -- Gods -- I don't even have words.

Sadly, it seems a very human thing to do.

You speak of inventions and experiments. That sounds so interesting! I don't really know anything about most things you've named, but it sounds, uh. Intriguing. Yes.

Well - people do keep killing each other, do they not?

Not all people?

I like to imagine that the homicidal kinds of people are the minority rather than the majority.

Really?

... I guess they just seem so overbearing sometimes that I forget that.

[Voice] XD Well, Carl's BFF kills people pretty regularly, so, y'know... somekindofsin March 3 2009, 22:03:42 UTC
I suppose that, given a normal population--meaning most any population that isn't that of this City--there would be far more people who haven't bothered killing anyone than those who have.

They are loud, aren't they? It's easy enough to imagine that relatively normal people with intact morals are drowned out.

That's true, I suppose.

Or maybe it's just that such people especially draw the attention of those who think what they're doing is wrong.

Also likely!

I might be wrong, but you have a certain... oh, I don't know. If I were to meet you at home, I would assume you were a hunter or some other kind of agent of justice. How far off am I?

Pretty far off. I'm just a girl with a personal vendetta, that's all.

It was worth a try, I suppose. I would ask why you have a personal vendetta, and who against, but that would be prying.

It's not really a secret. I'm trying to avenge the murder of my parents.

Very much so.

Alright, so I did exaggerate slightly, but the sheer number of such destructive weapons in existence makes the possibility of a nuclear apocalypse more likely than not, doesn't it? God help us if the Vatican has harnessed the power of nuclear fission. Some of the cardinals have a rather set "destroy first, ask questions later" mentality.

Inventions and experiments are my life--my reason for being! I could always show you... ah, something or other.

Oh... they do? Sounds rather like a lot of people.

I'd like that, I think.

Honestly, I haven't met all that many cardinals. The ones I did know, however, were exactly like that.

Really? Well! If you don't mind my incessant chatter, I would be more than happy to show you the laboratory... if the elevator works, of course.

... what exactly is a cardinal, anyway?

I don't think I'd mind too much.
