letters up to no good.

This morning I sat down and wrote a seven page letter to my sister, who's in the Peace Corp in Paraguay.  I've done this almost every Saturday since she left in September, and sometimes more than once a week.  I get to talk to her every few weeks via Skype, but I'm usually so glad to talk to her that I forget to tell her things, remembering only ( Read more... )

La Sagrada Familia is AMAZING. Make sure you take a camera with a zoom, or binoculars; a lot of the stuff up high on the exterior can be difficult to see. And the interior is a revelation (I mean that in an artistic/architectural sense, not a religious one).

Also, in Barcelona, there is a beach downtown. The Spanish know how to live.

I love the Paris cemeteries! Go see them. They're beautiful and amazing. It's my favorite part of Paris.

The really popular artworks in the Lourve are always overcrowded (and if you're taking a bunch of school kids I'm guessing that's what you're going there to see) but there are plenty of quieter rooms that most tourists just don't care to see.

My favourite museum in Paris and well worth your time is the Musée Carnavalet which has recreated rooms from different periods so you get to see art and furniture in situ - which I always prefer. Get there early and you basically have the place to yourself.

Barcelona is fantastic. The lines for La Sagrada Familia are long but they do move quickly; the audio guide is worth it. Of Gaudi's apartment buildings I only got to see Casa Milà which was amazing. Museu Frederic Marès is a lovely quiet museum that has collections that range from religious iconography to racist pipes. It's brilliant.

BARCELONA! Super jealous of that and all the rest of your travel.

Tumblr is definitely way more suited to visuals than text, and it's really not very good for conversations, but... it's where people are. (And it's gotten me a bunch of readers, which is nice.)

and of course I am looking forward to more of Truth to be a liar. I made friends watch Inception for their first time ever yesterday and was OVERCOME with a wave of emotions for how great Arthur and Ariadne are. <3

Totally seconding the recommend for Musee Carnavalet. It's free and really good (and has very few people). Also, Pere Lachaise Cemetery is beautiful (and full of famous dead people). For a better art museum experience, Musee Rodin is also good--you get to see his house/yard, it's easy to get to, not overly crowded or expensive, and there are sculptures as well as paintings from other artists ( ... )
