I think though there were three lines that REALLY jumped out and made me grin/laugh/whatever.

Evan squinted a little, turned his head sideways, and - oh, shit that was the baby, wasn’t it? He could sort of see it now, could resolve squiggles and spots into hands and feet and a rough torso shape. Sure, there were some wiggly bits that he couldn’t quite make out, but that was definitely a baby.

“Hmm,” Carson said from beside Evan, and Evan whipped his head around to ask what was wrong, because Carson saying hmm during a medical test was never a good sign.

And it’s not lying, it’s… carefully edited truth.

Great lines, great story. :)
