Prompt Table

04: Hours

Adam had tried to make sense of his big sister's decision on his own. He'd spent hours in the passenger seat turning the same question over and over in his mind: Why would they drive over five hundred miles just to turn around and head back the other way? It took him a while to articulate the question. Sam was exhibiting all the signs of a person seriously disturbed in their thinking parts. When this was the case, Adam had learned long ago that you weren't supposed to kick the hornets' nest.
“Sam...what are we doing?” He kicked anyway.
“We're going back home, that's what we're doing.”
“So...he wasn't there?”
Sam didn't answer that, though Adam saw his hands grip the wheel just a little bit tighter.
