Day Three: A female character you hated but grew to love

For hatred read annoyed indifference - there are few fictional characters I truly hate and they are secure in their place of loathing. Today's theme seems to be Stoic Professional Liars, which makes sense, because, as priorly discussed, I tend not to connect with inscrutable, emotionally ( Read more... )

tara is one of REALLY rare replacement characters written in who were written in well. precisely because they didn't try to make sophie 2.0 out of her, or convert her, or give her the ~moment of catharsis or whatever. she just came in, did what was needed, came out, and was faaaaaaabulous at that. (also, hot).

and this fic was hella cute! i think that's the first avatar fic i've ever read. does azula, like, survive the end of canon? or is she the ultimate villainess?

Hot! Warm... Cold? <3

There is loooots of good Avatar fic, I shall rec you some more of it as the meme progresses. Oui, Azula does survive - she has a kind of gradual paranoid attack / psychotic break thing, which makes sense in context (like, it's not caused by her ~villainy~, but by the fact her friends, whom she liked and trusted, betray her) and it's implied she'll be getting some kind of psychiatric/spiritual help.

"Tara is not Sophie and that's okay" seems to be the message of the show and it is great. Too often the treatment of the replacement character falls on its face with at least one of the two clauses.

Another thing I liked was that she was forgotten either by the show or the characters when she left. She showed up in the Girls Night Out Job, for example.

I actually quite liked Natasha's cold competence in IM2, but I see your point.

Yes! We kept in touch with her AND we were shown that she's still happy and safe and successful.

I am glad you enjoyed IM2 Natasha! She was totally a coldly competent badass, it's just that that's not a type of character I connect with usually. I was so happy when I started liking her post-Avnengers.
