Heralding the triumphant return of science to Kansas?

It's from the New York Times, so you might need login or Bug Me NotAnyhoo, there's not much in the way of news. I'm probably going back to school in the fall. I'm currently crashing at a friends apartment in her spare room. (Crashing meaning here, in my third month there.) It doesn't have ( Read more... )

I love Tom Robbins. Still Life With Woodpecker is one of my all time favorite books (can you see why, though, really? ;) )

I missss youuuu.

I finally have a means of transportation these days (car!) and since Brian lives in Sherwood Forest, I've become way more accustomed to driving down to that neck of the woods. Sooo yeah. We should get together or somethin'.

Yeah. And maybe it's just that my hair isn't that brand of red, but I'm not liking it as much as Jitterbug Perfume. (I also think that, while Robbins' style of writing is great, it wears on you, and I started Still Life right after Jitterbug, so I'm kinda getting sick of it. It'll be a few months, at least, before I pick up Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (which is what I'm planning on reading next.)

Yes, we definitely should do something. How flexible are you? If you've got plenty of time to hang out, I'd suggest we wing it, or at least put off figuring it out, until my schedule shapes up more clearly. If not, let me know when you're free, and if there's anything in particular you feel like doing. :) Actually, you'd be a good person to ask if there's any decent theatre going on right now, that you know of. :)

I have free time on saturday during the day - night, I think, and possibly sunday night (i usually do dinner with my dad, but after that I'll probably be somewhat free). monday is a mabe (depending on if Brian gets home or not) and tuesday is pretty much out anyway due to voting and other such business.

So, we can wing it as far as all of that goes, but just know that that's where my free time is at right now. Just gimme a call or a text beforehand, and I'm sure we can figure something out!

And I agree that Robbins' style does tend to wear on one, I read two books of his (also) in a row and I was like "Alright...that's enough for now. But I do still love him so!

Nick Hornby is a great writer with his deadpan humor about grave things. I didn't quite get "How to Be Good" though, esp. the ending, but his High Fidelity and About A Boy are two of my favorites, long before their movie adaptations came out.

Of the ones I've read so far, A Long Way Down is my favorite. I sorta got How To Be Good, or at least I didn't have a problem with it, but I was amazed at just how believable he makes outright silly situations.

I think Ted might be in town this weekend as well. That makes four of us. Should we all do something?

Really? Ted hadn't mentioned that to me...

Anyway, yeah, that sounds good. Actually, what would you say to the baseball at Greenfield Village idea? I think you guys would be the best to go to that with, and one of the reasons that baseball is my favorite sport is that it's so leisurely, so it won't stop us from talking and such. Or, if not, we can find something else. :)

Well, still, it would be really awesome. I've been wanting to go... and I have a free pass for four people to the museum (somewhere, I hope it isn't lost).
