Moon Cycle 51: 1/24 - 1/31 - New Moon

❖ MOON CYCLE 51 ❂ 01/24/1 - 01/31/11
Phase: New Moon. The night is pitch black.

Weather: Temperatures will remain at at a range of 30°F - 40°F. However, the skies are extremely overcast and it feels more like a "dry cold" with bitter gusts of wind.

Effects: No additional effects.

Notes: Attack of the Yeti. That's right, Somarium is being attacked by a yeti, but there are different "stages" to this event. So read the following to understand what's happening!
  • The Yeti. First, we would like to note that the yeti will only appear during these event posts. Each time it will appear on the floating mountain. After it does its thing, it will disappear and hide. Characters can of course try and find the vile creature, but there won't be much luck until Saturday. But don't let that deter any potential plots. The floating mountain is still open for anyone who wants to try to explore it.

  • Stage 1: First Appearance. Along with this announcement post, there is a signal post that will provide a full description of how the yeti will make its presence known. Pay attention to the post, but in short the yeti will unleash an attack that will leave visible damage to Somarium.

  • Stage 2: Second Attack + Noctaere. On Thursday, another event post will go up, once again detailing the yeti's attack. Again, pay particular attention to the post itself. In addition to the yeti's attack, two things will happen.
    1. Complete power outage. The yeti's attack will cause all of the power to go out. Dreamberries will work, and like previous blackouts, there are power generators around. But it will be hard going given the situation.

    2. Noctaere. Noctaere will appear. However, there a couple of differences with the noctaere that will appear and the ones described on that page:
      • Small. The noctaere that will appear will be relatively small-about the size of a large dog.

      • Nocturnal. The noctaere will only come out at night, so the daytime will be perfectly safe.

      • Can be killed. Usually noctaere cannot be killed, but the ones that will be appearing can. They are still unusually tough, but it is possible to wound and kill them. Upon killing, the noctaere will turn into ash. (Note: The ash can be collected for studying/research.)

      • Brief nightmare vision experience. If a character is severely wounded by a noctaere, they have a high chance of having a very brief vision of one of their worst nightmares. This should last no longer than fifteen minutes. After the time has passed, the character may still suffer from any emotional shock, but will be able to recover. Also, by "severely wounded", we do not mean if a character just suffers a few scratches or bites. The character must have been critically injured that assistance would be required.

This is optional. Not all characters may suffer from this experience, so it is possible to have a character critically injured but not suffer the nightmare effect.
We would also like to note that this is not an invasion. It's quite possible for character to not encounter the noctaere at all. While there are going to be noctaere running around, think of them more like the scarecrows.

The noctaere can be NPC'ed, but if anyone wants to have fun with the noctaere journal, just drop us a line and we'll give out the password. The only rules we have for using the journal are
      1. Ask for player permission first. Don't just randomly jump into a thread and have noctaere attack. Ask players beforehand!

      2. No godmodding. Like our usual rules, do not godmod. Also, don't forget that these creatures can be killed.

  • Stage 3: Battle of the Yeti. The time you've all been waiting for! On Saturday, another event post will go up and the yeti will finally be accessible for all characters to just rally together and beat the crap out of the yeti. The yeti will descend from the floating mountain and head toward the fountain that conceals the tunnel entrance. It is there that the event post will take place, and there that characters can attack.

Details on how that log will work will appear when it comes closer to the date.

  • Aftermath. The result of this attack will scar Somarium for some time. However, as a heads up the next month will be a lot more relaxed and serve as a "healing" month. Details will be put up on the next Moon Cycle.

And that should be it!

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here. You can also use this post for any plotting/discussion. We highly encourage for the character to get out there and react to the upcoming attacks. As said before, though they won't be able to find and fight the yeti until Saturday, they may be able to find other hint or clues somewhere on the floating mountain. Why is that thing so important, anyway?
